They could be, but they are demanding to get paid. I guess they heard that K likes to use paid players and they thought they would cash in.

There goes Hole fan thinking he is special again, which is the entire reason we loathe your fan base so much. To even think that you are the most hated/envied/best/what-ever-the.... is a joke. The ABK trumps the ABC fan base by leaps and bounds.

You might want to question your "own" first starting with 903GUMP! Considering that the ABC fanbase is the largest fanbase in America and their only sole purpose is to hate on Carolina I would say maybe you should start a Q&A with them and find a true answer! You will hear a ton of excuses but at the end of the day it will all go back to jealousy over a long period of time.

I always wonder what has happened in your life that has you hating Duke and especially coach K? It is sad actually but I tend to wonder what motivates and drives folks like you to spend all of his waking hours hating someone and a school so much.

before the pros started playing, it was basketball. it's now like watching the globetrotters. of course, people still pay to see them. i guess it's a form of entertainment.

    Proof that they mean nothing?

Hurry back with the link little guy.

Dean did it with college players, K had to use the best of the best NBA talent.

Calling what he did "coaching" is like praising the coach of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Sorry Princess, but those contracts mean absolutely nothing. They play for K because he is a winner. They play for K because he is respected. They play for K because of his passion for USA basketball. They play for K because they know they will win, which is something the Carolina boys couldn't do.

They still play? Haven't watched olympic basketball since the pro players started playing. Enjoyed it when the college kids played and still won the gold. Now those were the days of true coaching. Now its just babysitting against these weaker countries.

Too bad 2004 coaches got screwed and the players acted like babies and backed out. No comprimising or begging like todays coaches for the olympics. Glad of that!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_men%27s_national_basketball_team

The close outcome of 2000 and the humiliating results of 2002 prompted a number of NBA superstars to agree to join the team for the FIBA Americas Championship 2003, which the squad was required to participate in to qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics. The team easily cruised to a first-place finish, earning it a spot in Athens, Greece the following summer.

However, the dominant team that competed in 2003 could not be kept together. Nine of its 12 players elected not to participate in Athens. The revamped 2004 team consisted of some young NBA stars early in their careers, such as Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, but also included recent Most Valuable Players Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson. The team was coached by Larry Brown.

Following the disappointments in 2002 and 2004, USA Basketball appointed Jerry Colangelo to be solely responsible for selecting the team. Colangelo made it clear that he would ask players for a three-year commitment—the 2006 FIBA World Championship and the 2008 Summer Olympics. In the 2006 Worlds, the team was eliminated by Greece at the semifinals, after a dramatic match. The head coach was Duke University's Mike Krzyzewski, with assistants Jim Boeheim, Mike D'Antoni, and Nate McMillan. While some prominent players, such as Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, stated that they did not plan to play for the team, superstars Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James publicly announced their commitment for the 2006 Worlds and the ensuing 2008 Olympics.

Yes, and before they sign the contract they are told who the coach is. That's why they all sign it, because they know coach k won't f@ck it up like the two coaches before him.

They sign a contract little guy. We went over this several months ago when Dookies were beating their chests about K's record.

It is sad however that I have to continue to spoon feed you guys with things that are common knowledge.

Now, lets see, hmmmmmmmm. Should we take DS's words or the words of Kevin Durant and Lebron James concerning Coach K. hmmmmmmm, let me think, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Man, this is tough one, but I think I will go with Durant and James and other Olympians who love and respect Coach K instead of some delusional ABD'er.

yes, because someone is holding a gun up to these players' heads and making them stay..........
People want to play with K...just ask K. Durant "I'm sure we can get him to come back,"

K benefited from the new requirements that players had to stay. It is as simple as that.
