Good call. Maryland needed this one badly because it was their last chance at a signature win for the NCAA committee in the regular season. Here's the rest of their schedule. No good wins left to be won:

Tue, Feb 19 @ Boston College
    Sat, Feb 23 vs Clemson
Wed, Feb 27 @ Georgia Tech
Sat, Mar 2 @ Wake Forest
Wed, Mar 6 vs North Carolina
    Sun, Mar 10 @Virginia

+1...The Terps are 14 - 2 at home. Duke is 3 - 2 in road games in ACC play. Won close games at WF & BC. I think the Terps will give 'em all they can handle.

Maryland just may get that signature win and put them on the road to joining Miami as one of the few teams to defeat Duke, state, & carolina in the same season after the heels go to their house on Mar. 6.

so what does that mean? who is unc's big man coach? does the big man coach have to be bigger than the men he coaches or is it incumbent on him to have played center? does that mean Dave Duncan, a catcher, was not a great pitching coach? what position did old Roy play? what position did obama have before becoming prez? your analogy only makes sense in that you wish to find some reason to hate on Duke. typical unc fan.

Roy's big man development is like all his other accolades, they are a myth. When Roy recruits you, you either already got it or you ain't never gonna have it. Check the NBA rosters for the bigs he's coached up.

Even if he had left last year when he should have, all that means is he would be in the D League right now with Kendall. Would have just been caught up in the revolving door of young kids who aren't NBA ready but can't pass up the money.

His draft stock as a freshman was higher than it is going to be from here on out. UNLESS he can develop a mid range game and/or any sort of post presence.

Developmentally he made a bad decision but financially????????

We will have to wait for markie's research on player payments to see how much he is making now vs a rookie NBA salary.

I was disputing his assumption that JMM came back because of Roy. If you look at it being about money, then yes, it was a mistake. If you look at him developing into a better player, than no. He knew the challenges he would face in the NBA, with the limited about of time he had to showcase his game. He will make millions in the NBA, that is a given. If he leaves after this year, then he will not go nearly as high as he would have last season. If he works on his game over the summer and develops into a go to players, his stock will rise, once again. This is all assuming by everyone on this forum. The only given is that he will make it in the NBA.

Really, I know of Tyler Zeller, that is it. Please dont tell me Henson. Having a 7'6" wing span is not development.

  • 903 mens national championships Feb 15, 2013
    Sports Legend

McAdoo, a distant relative of Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo, is averaging 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in 29.4 minutes while shooting 45.4 percent. One number that jumps out to NBA evaluators: he is a 6-foot-9 power forward with six blocks in 529 minutes. Even elite pro prospects not known for defense should get more than that by accident, especially when McAdoo should be dominating lesser opponents early in the season on muscle memory alone.
He is a good athlete, but the lack of a reliable perimeter game is a problem for any attempt to consider McAdoo at small forward. He rebounds well - 8.3 per game - but needs to get stronger to have that translate at the next level, and being a bad free-throw shooter (58.3 percent) means teams will have no problem with McAdoo getting the ball inside. Hack away. And while power forwards don't need to be skilled passers, having more than twice as many turnovers (52) than assists (23) shows another glaring problem.
"I was really surprised," an exec said after recently scouting Carolina. "He had so much more talent around him (last season). He didn't have to be the man. I liked his upside a lot more than what I saw this year."

The assessment that he made a mistake coming back is pretty accurate around the NBA.

http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/01/24/drafch-james-mcadoo-takes-mighty-hit-in-projections/This is not a disappearing act. That would be too harsh. James McAdoo is still the leading scorer for a high-profile program, North Carolina, with a chance to get back into the top 25.
But it is a dramatic hit to his draft stock. That would be reality.
"I just see a role player," an NBA executive said. "And this is a guy you would have said was top 10 before the season for sure."
Maybe even top five. But deep into what was supposed to be a sophomore season with the Chapel Hill spotlight mostly to himself, McAdoo has tumbled so far on team draft boards that it is not just possible he will slip entirely out of the lottery the night of June 27. It is easy to see happening.
The cause for the fall has been debated - some front offices say the perspective of time shows he was oversold as a freshman, others maintain McAdoo was lottery-level good last season before deciding to stay in school, only to have his lack of star power exposed once Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall, John Henson and Tyler Zeller left North Carolina as 2012 first-round picks.
"I think he's still a phenomenal player," said Zeller, now a Cavaliers center. "It's just (opponents) can focus more on him whereas last year we had a lot more players that he kind of got away from and he could kind of slide in there and make it a little easier on himself."

Duke will be very fortunate to pull one out at Maryland. The Twerps will be super pumped with an elite program like Duke coming into their house. That only happens once a year and the little snappers will throw everything they've got at 'em, even the kitchen sink.

A game I had marked with a large question mark. Maryland has a decent team which has the potential to slip in the backdoor and land in the top 4 of the ACC. Hopefully, Duke will be ready for another battle and pull this one out. It's a coin toss on who will win.
