One of my favorite Duke players as a young kid. Dude had a helluva game. Prayers go out to his family. 44 is way too young.

Phil was always the best... met him at Tommy Amaker's basketball camps as a kid... he was a great man... I am a Tarheel and I will miss Phil...

I remembered the name "Phil Henderson" but couldn't put my finger on it. Then I googled him to see a picture. I recognized him immediately and a rush of memories came roaring back. I remember disliking him immensely at the time...which means he was a great player. Of course I never knew him personally. As someone who was born and raised in Chapel Hill (pre-Panthers/Hornets), my sports hero's and antagonists were UNC and Duke basketball players (with a little Rodney Monroe/Chris Corciani mixed in).
It really is an unusual feeling when people from your era pass away. It's what chips away at the feeling of immortality you have as a kid. But Phil was only 44. Way too young to die. This is tragic and I pray for his mother and family. Condolences to the Henderson family and the Duke family.
