Double Overtime win last night for Nets! Surely PlumUglee got some good PT, correct?

    Wrong.

    1 minute played: 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 blocks.......0 anything.

From Duke/UNC players in the league last night:

Leading Scorers: Irving (32), Miles Plumlee (22), Henderson (22), Lawson (20)
Leading Rebounders: Plumlee (13), Marvin Williams (8)
Leading Assists: McRoberts (9), Lawson (8)
Leading Blocks: Plumlee (3), Ed Davis (1)

Dukies leading in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks... just another night in the NBA.

Translated: "I know that Duke players are greatly outperforming UNC players in the league this year. I know that the quality of players Duke has put out since 1999 is better than what UNC has put out. I cannot refute this so what I'm going to do is invent a position to debate like saying Duke is proclaiming a player to be the greatest of all time."

It's pathetic that you have to resort to strawmen like this to avoid the actual point being debated. The argument, which you haven't been able to rebut, is that Duke's players in the NBA this year are performing better than UNC's and that the quality of players coming out of both schools since 1999 greatly favors Duke.

BTW - Do you think the 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots from Miles Plumlee last night was the best performance from a Duke or UNC big man in the league this season or was it Carlos Boozer's 26/16/1 night from back in November?

Where does it say we have the best talent.

Duke for the last few years had the most players who earned the most. That is a fact.

You folks love to change the words around to create an argument.

Sad. Jealousy and envy are not the two best emotions to live with on a day to day basis.

Actually, you claim that Irving is the only differentiator between the two programs. But then you hid from the facts that out of the players that both schools have currently in the league:

    - 5 out of the top 6 leading scorers are Dukies
    - 4 out of the top 5 leading rebounders are Dukies
    - 3 out of the top 5 leading assist men are Dukies
    - that the fantasy league points based on actual NBA production favors Duke's alums over UNC's by a wide margin. In fact, you could remove Irving's 1095 fantasy points and Duke players would still have a lead of nearly 700 points over the Heels.

All of that shows that Duke's current group of NBA players is vastly better than UNC's and it's not a function of Irving alone. And the gap is growing since the 2000 NBA season where out of the players that both schools have put in league since then:

    - Duke players have scored 40 pts. or more in an NBA game 8 times. No UNC player entering the league after 1999 has ever scored 40 pts.
    - Duke players have accounted for 7 All Star selections. No UNC player entering the league after 1999 has ever made an All Star game.
    - Duke has 2 NBA ROY winners. No UNC player entering the league after 1999 has been selected NBA ROY.

These are the facts. They show Duke players currently are better and that it is not solely a function of Kyrie Irving. They also show that the quality of players put out over the last decade or so greatly favors Duke. You should really come to accept this as you haven't been to show anything of substance to state otherwise. Stick to the name calling... leave thought for the adults.

Thanks, little booger, for confirming what was already established on pg. 6, post 1 (that the only real differentiator between the two programs currently is a former dookie that logged a total of 11 games for the school in durm).

btw, that same differentiator went 0-9 from the floor and 0-3 from the stripe against the same team 3 weeks ago.

can you say struggling??? some have alluded that the crown jewel dookie is the biggest letdown in the Eastern Conference (with his team under the projected playoff cut -- again)...

That's a nice stat line for Danny. If he had only scored another 18 points he would have hit the 40 points that Kyrie Irving scored on the same night. He still would have needed another 2 rebounds, 7 assists, and a steal to catch up but still, by Heel standards it was a nice night for him.

If Danny can keep that type of performance up maybe the gap between Duke and UNC players in the NBA can narrow a bit.

    Back on topic.

In his most recent outing, Mason didn't miss a single attempt in his 27 minutes of action. He scored his 22 points on five 3-pointers, while going 3 of 3 at the free-throw line. He also filled up the box score nicely, with two assists, two blocks and three steals in the win.

This is so laughably wrong as it relates to UNC under Roy Williams.

Out of the Class of 2002 -
The highest rated player to play as an upperclassman was Ray Felton, the second highest was McCants.

Out of the Class of 2005 -
The highest rated player to play as an upperclassman was Hansbrough.

Out of the Class of 2006 -
The highest rated player to play as an upperclassman was Ty Lawson, the second highest rated was Wayne Ellington.

Out of the Class of 2009 -
The highest rated player to play as an upperclassman was John Henson.

Out of the Class of 2010 -
The highest rated player to play as a sophomore was Harrison Barnes.

Out of the Class of 2011 -
The highest rated player to play as a sophomore or upperclassman was/is James McAdoo. The second highest rated player to play as an upperclassman would have been PJ Hairston.

Nobody over the last 14 years has had more highly rated guys stick around longer than Ol' Roy.

No Larry, I'm saying what happened 25 years ago is not relevant to the conversation we're having. This thread started mocking the play of Mason Plumlee in the NBA. The response was that Mason may be struggling but overall Duke has better talent in the NBA right now.

That's something that Tar Heel fans simply cannot come to grips with so you and others have spent the last few days not debating that or accepting it but simply trying to change the criteria as to what constitutes better or shifting the focus on to safer sands from a bygone time.

Can you point to anything that would suggest that the players UNC has in the NBA are performing better this season than those from Duke? Is there anything you can point to that would suggest that the players that UNC has put in the league since 2000 are better than those that Duke has?

2 out of the last 3 sure sounds better than 2 out of the last 4 I guess.

Larry, if you're going to make an argument let's try to do it without some lame strawman like "didn't a sure fire stud according to Duke fans just transfer?" I mean, I can live with trying to decipher your typing into English but it's just not worth the effort if you're going not at least going to put forth something worth discussing. Alex Murphy was, on average, the #40 recruit in his class so trying to declare him as someone that everyone was declaring to be a sure fire stud is disingenuous at best and just a lazy argument.

You should really calm down and stop just flinging ish and hoping something hits. The "ACC Championships don't mean anything" became a lot more popular when Duke started dominating the tournament. And sure... going 11-24 against Duke in the last 36 isn't a big deal. Heck, I bet you don't really care if you lose those games. If losing in the first round of the NCAAT trumps everything where does not even making the tourney come in? 2010 was a great year. Both Duke and UNC played for a national championship. It's just that UNC's had an "NIT" in front of it and they couldn't even close the deal there.

It appears I have to repeat this for you again - we were talking about the quality of players coming out of each school these days. What does any of the tuff you've said have to do with that?

Lets not forget.......Carolina has had more talent leave early than Duke. They keep more upper classmen than all the other top programs and still flame out quicker.

Have you ever wondered why they always win big early on in the season? Other teams are having to play their freshmen while K has all his starters returning. By the time March gets here the youth has caught up and the match is lit.....or should I say.......flaming out!

Dean was a great coach and man. I genuinely respect him and what he accomplished. Declaring him "better at developing talent for the NBA" really has to take into account the skill of the players he was working with in the first place though.

Unfortunately there's no real objective way to say just how good a player guy like say Walter Davis was before getting to UNC because there's no recruiting rankings or anything similar to that from those days. But certainly Dean did a great job of identifying talent and developing what he got.

It's a shame that with all that talent he wasn't able to win as many games or National Championships as K. I can understand how you guy would pine for those days.

I'll take 2 of the 3 last National Championships between the two schools. What are you basing your chances on of having a beter chance to get to the final 4 this year? Based on what quality win? Seems to me that Carolina has a great recruiting class coming in next year too. Hope you arent basing your measurement of success on recruits that haven't even made it to campus yet......didn't a sure fire stud according to Duke fans just transfer? Be careful!

ACC tournament championships are worthless now compared to many years ago. Just as if not more important to win the regular season. Head to head hasn't brought you any more success on a national level so really not a big deal! Remember.....on the big stage where it really matters that 0-1 against Lehigh trumps all!

Basically you just rambeled but have nothing to show for it even with all that hot air!

Oh........and your coach still hasn't produced ANYTHING even close during his time at Duke that can compare to what UNC has at the NBA level! Next.......

I was responding to kato's ""in the NBA, relevancy equates to playoffs.."" quote by stating that winning rings were relevant to any discussion about playoffs... I, in fact, disagree with his original post that "in the NBA, relevancy equates to playoffs.. Barkley, Malone, Stockton didn't win as much in the playoffs as say Robert Horry or Derek Fisher but that doesn't take away from their accomplishments in their NBA careers...

There's nothing desperate about Duke nation. In fact, things are pretty wonderful these days. Our guy in the pros are second only to Kentucky in terms of productivity and considerably better than what you're putting out. We're 24-11 against you guys in the last 36 games. We've won 10 out of the last 14 ACC Championships. Our team this year is ranked higher than yours and has a much better shot at the Final Four. Our recruiting class next year features the number 1, 4, 10, and 36 players in the class.

But hey, you guys did produce Michael Jordan 30 years ago so you go that going for you.
