Duke University freshman Elizabeth Williams was named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after leading the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (12-2, 3-0 ACC) to three league wins this past week.
Williams helped lead the Blue Devils to wins over Virginia, Wake Forest and N.C. State. For the week, she averaged 11.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 7.0 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals for the Blue Devils.
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Williams registered just the fifth triple-double in school history and became the 15th player in ACC history to collect a triple-double in a win against Wake Forest. She finished with 18 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocked shots, while also dishing out four assists to lead Duke to a 76-58 victory.
She posted only the second triple-double in ACC history with blocks as one of the categories and became the first freshman in ACC history to notch a triple-double. Williams’ 12 blocked shots are an ACC record and is tied for fifth place on the NCAA single-game blocks list. Williams already ranks second on Duke’s single-season freshman blocks list with 56 blocks, while ranking ninth on the ACC charts.
Williams was also named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time on Monday and was the College Sports Madness ACC Player of the Week for her efforts.
The Blue Devils will host Florida State on Friday at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
