Former Duke pitcher and first-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, Marcus Stroman, has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball.
Stroman was suspended for violating the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program after testing positive for Methylhexaneamine, a stimulant.
In a statement released by the Toronto Blue Jays, Stroman said "Despite taking precautions to avoid violating the minor league testing program, I unknowingly ingested a banned stimulant that was in an over-the-counter supplement. Nonetheless, I accept full responsibility and I want to apologize to the Toronto Blue Jays organization, my family, my teammates, and the Blue Jays fans everywhere. I look forward to putting this behind me and rejoining my teammates."
Stroman was selected 22nd overall in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Blue Jays and has been playing with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in eight innings at New Hampshire.
A 5-foot-9 right-hander, he signed with Toronto for $1.8 million and began the season in Single-A Vancouver. There, he was 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 11.1 innings.
Stroman struck out 290 batters in 220 innings of work at Duke in three seasons, making 27 starts. His career ERA of 3.27 is the second best in Duke history since the introduction of metal bats.
Following his sophomore season, he became the first Duke player to play for the Team USA Collegiate National Team where he served as the closer, going 4-for-4 in save opportunities.
In 2010, Stroman was named ACC Freshman of the Year and named to the second-team Baseball America All-Freshman Team.

Another dumb rule by MLB. They should be busting the ones that blatantly roid up and go from 10 HRs to 40 HRs in one season, not the rookies who accidently took an over-the-counter supplement.

Hilarious. A Dookie trying to now decide what is permissable and impermissable when it comes to banned substances. You sure took the "accidentally" hook line and sinker. Bet you still think the Dook LAX team was just holding an Anatomy Study Group when old Crystal tried to shake them down. The "no matter what, it's ok if a Dookie did it" mentality, priceless.
He is famous for it. Just read his postings, comedy gold does not get any better.
