Smith won't start for Duke; Thomas' status uncertain
By Ryan Craig Mar 6, 2009
Durham, N.C. — Nolan Smith will not play against North Carolina on Sunday and Lance Thomas will not play if he doesn't start, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Friday.
Smith suffered a concussion in game at Maryland.
Krzyzewski said Thomas, who has a sprained left ankle, has done some running but will need to practice Saturday to appear in the game.
If Thomas doesn't start and doesn't play, Brian Zoubek will start at center for Duke.
The teams meet Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Smith Center on WRAL.

Thomas actually does a good job defensively on Hansbrough as well. He is much quicker than Zoubek and easily more agile. We'll see. But if he has a bum ankle, that takes away from his quickness.

Thomas not playing is a big deal...not because of his production but for the simple fact that the more that he plays the less Zoubek plays. Either way I don't think that it will matter...I have my devils going down 97-85

Lawson is THE key to the game. If you guys will quit kidding yourselves for just a moment, you will realize he's your best player, not #50. He will play sunday. but it would not hurt my feelings if he's a little slower than normal.

Lawson was then and is now a KEY player in the game. The contributions of Smith and Thomas, not to mention Zou-lander, aren't quite the same. Really, come on.

I just watched the news and lawson was seen leaving practice on crutches. could be he won't play, i'm sure that would make coach k happy. he's always looking for an advantage.
