Greensboro, N.C. — Duke hit the free throws it needed down the stretch to hold of Texas 74-69 Saturday in a thrilling NCAA game at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Duke now advances to the NCAA East Regional in Boston on Thursday.
After Gerald Henderson waved his teammates away and missed a shot, Duke’s Kyle Singler toward to the rim and tipped in the ball for a 69-67 Duke lead.
Nolan Smith hit two free throws after a Texas basket to make it 71-69, and Henderson added one free throw for a 72-69 Blue Devils advantage.
Elliot Williams then missed two free throws, but Henderson came up with the rebound in a wild scramble and was fouled with 7.2 seconds left. He hit his free throws and Duke prevailed, 74-69.
