Singler to return to Duke for senior season
By Ryan Craig Apr 20, 2010
With the impending graduation of guard Jon Scheyer, forward Lance Thomas and center Brian Zoubek, Duke knew it was going to lose three starters off of its 2010 national championship team. The team will not lose a fourth.
Kyle Singler, the Devils' All-ACC forward who scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Duke's 61-59 title-clinching win over Butler in Indianapolis, has decided to return to Durham for his senior season.
“I love being here at Duke and am excited about next year,” said Singler. “I had two great options in front of me, but I did not want to miss out on all of the great things to come in a senior season.”
Singler averaged 17.7 points and seven rebounds per game this past season and likely would have been chosen in the latter part of the first round in this year's NBA draft, one that is considered to be extremely deep.
By staying an extra season, Singler is likely to move into at least the late lottery of next year's draft, but he could very well face the prospect of trying to enter a professional league in the middle of a lockout.
“I am looking forward to coaching Kyle in his senior year and seeing him develop more as a player and as a leader,” said head coach Mike Krzyzewski.
The return of Singler means a likely preseason number one ranking for the 2010 national champions, as the Blue Devils also return guard Nolan Smith and key reserves Miles and Mason Plumlee, bring in highly-touted prep point guard Kyrie Irving, and add the proficient shooting stroke of guard Seth Curry, who is now eligible after sitting out last season as a transfer.
Entering his final season, Singler ranks 18th on Duke’s career scoring list with 1,767 points.
A three-time All-ACC selection and the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2008, Singler has helped Duke to a 93-18 (.838) record over the last three seasons. He has been a member of back-to-back ACC Tournament Championship teams in 2009 and 2010, making the ACC All-Tournament team both years and earning ACC Tournament MVP honors this year.

RE: Singler to return to Duke for senior season
Heels for life says "K coaches for college and doesn't produce good pro players"?!? He must be like me and never watch any NBA games. I do however read the paper and Duke does have more players in the NBA than anyone else. And I would say that Boozer, Brand, Battier, Dunleavy, Duhon, etc. have had pretty good careers already. That is a pretty stupid statement to make. I think K's job is to coach in college and he obviously does a pretty good job.
It is good to see Singler back and I wish more kids would stay.

heels for life is just talking out of the wrong pie hole, Coach K prepares young men for life. He truly loves his players, and they love him. I guess thats why Kobe Bryant and the Nets arent calling coach dadgummit to be their coach.

Hey mikey read my posts and tell me where I said coach K isn't a good coach?? Please let me know when you find it??

Lets break it down to playing time, or, who starts and who doesnt......
who cares, I dont watch the NBA, I love college BBall, and coach K is the
greatest motivator in the game, he does more, with less talent than any other
coach. dadgummit had all those bojangles all americans and could not get them to play as a team, enjoy HB next year cause he's one and done.
