Memory of Richmond loss a cautionary tale for Duke

If Duke needs any extra motivation going into this weekend’s game against Elon… the Blue Devils need only look back to LAST season’s opener… A 21-16 home loss to another FCS power, Richmond…

The memory of that game still lingers with many on this season’s Duke team.

“I hear them talking about it,” said Blue Devils head coach David Cutcliffe.” “There's enough guys around to understand that.”

“I think we're a lot more focused this year,” said quarterback Sean Renfree. “We didn't have all those people get sick again. We didn't have a whole lot of injuries. So, I think guys are a lot more focused and locked in to what we need to accomplish in this first game.”

“I'm pretty sure the mentality was probably looking on to the next team,” said running back Desmond Scott. “So we can't overlook anybody. We can't look towards Wake Forest, Alabama and whoever else follows them. Elon is what's up front now, and we're focused on Elon.”

The Devils are breaking in a new starting quarterback in Renfree. But with injuries down and NO H1N1 scare this season, Cutcliffe’s working a healthier less-distracted Devils team harder than ever.

“We decided to take this team right next to the limit,” Cutcliffe said. “We've done more scrimmage snaps and more live work than we've done certainly since I've been here and maybe in our careers.”

Season openers haven’t been kind to Duke. They’ve only won four of their last 21.

There are a plethera of pathetic defeats for the puke football program to recall. Try not going to a bowl game for 20 plus.
Not that the general public will see, but for the sake of the Elon crowd and the 135 or so loosers that do attend, I sure hope Buttsniff reminds the puke cheerleaders to tend to that "unwanted facial hair".

Hey cheater, how are your investigations going? I'm proud Duke is doing things the right way. You've sold your soul to the devil, but Duke still has more football history than you do.

Based on what I have read about Richmond and Elon, both of these games will be tough for Duke to win. I know that they have a new coach at Richmond, but I feel that London left this team in pretty good shape.

Hey. bpayne. I posted one to you on the Quinn story. I poke too much and maybe too often trying to be too funny. I had to laugh at the first one about the 6:45. deal. Hell, I think I might drink a beer right now.
