Durham, N.C. — Durham Bulls manager Charlie Montoyo will manage the International League's All-Star team during the 2014 Cree Triple-A All-Star Game, the Bulls announced Thursday.
The game, which will be played July 16 at 7 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, will be carried live on MLB Network.
Montoyo also led the IL All-Stars in 2010, when they beat the PCL squad 2-1. The Bulls won another Governors' Cup in 2013 as Montoyo picked up his second IL Manager of the Year Award. With six division titles in his first seven seasons with Durham, Montoyo is closing in quickly on the franchise's all-time record for managerial victories. He recorded his 600th win as Bulls manager last Saturday in Indianapolis.
Bob Mariano, third-year skipper of the Fresno Grizzlies, will pilot the Pacific Coast League All-Star squad.
Serving as coaches on Montoyo's All-Star staff will be Columbus Clippers manager Chris Tremie along with Clippers pitching coach Tony Arnold. Tremie is at the helm in Columbus for the second straight season after having led his Double-A Akron team to the 2012 Eastern League championship. Arnold is also in his second season in Columbus and his 25th overall in the Minor Leagues as a pitching coach.
The athletic trainer for the IL All-Star squad is Mike Sandoval, who is in his third season with Durham and 28th overall in professional baseball. For the Pacific Coast League, Jason Roberts will serve as the athletic trainer. Roberts is in his fourth season with the Round Rock Express and eighth in the Texas Rangers organization.
