East Carolina University will visit Gainesville, Fla. in September 2015 for a matchup with the Florida Gators, the school announced Thursday.

The game, scheduled for Sept. 12, will be ECU's second trip to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Pirates last played Florida in 1983.

"I'm sure many of our fans will remember the last time we played in The Swamp," ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said in a statement. "While it's a great opportunity to compete in that environment against a program with the tradition Florida has, I'm confident Coach (Ruffin) McNeill will have the Pirates ready to play."

ECU's 2015 non-conference schedule includes road games at Florida ant BYU and a home game against Virginia Tech.

The Pirates, who compiled a 10-3 record and made their seventh bowl appearance in the last eight years in 2013, will open play in the American Athletic Conference this season after a 17-year run in Conference USA.

Doser-- Because quite often a school will ask to be let out of a scheduled game for whatever reason. That leaves an open date and the schools can reset their schedule. Sometimes the "larger" school will offer funds to the smaller school to back out in order for the larger school to schedule a more realistic opponent.

I respect the AD and Ruff for scheduling a tough team. It greatly helps with recruitment, and they could surprise them. They will have a new coach in place by then.

And they will probably have a new coach in 2015, could be a win for ecu.

I think Florida will be top notch when we get down there. We are going to be breaking in a new QB that season, which doesn't bode well for us. Go Pirates!

Considering Florida is a huge flaming pile of cow dung right now, who knows how this one will turn out lol.

How is this possible according to Pack fans schedules are made up many years in advance and cannot be changed. That is why they have such powerhouses as Ga. Sothern, Old Dominion and Presbyterian on their slate in 2014. You have to give ECU credit in making such an aggressive schedule. Take note State, recruits look at things like strength of schedule and opponents.
