Is it possible that when UCONN moves to the ACC the Pirates could move into that all sports spot?

Just for giggles you should visit a Big East message board and read what the fans of the other schools have to say about this. I have copied some of them here. They were posted under the headline "Tulane and ECU to join Big East". These are in the order posted and I have not altered them in any way. You will enjoy their pain more if you recall how these people told you that you would never get in.

    fnc111 says:
Moscow State and Alaska-Anchorage will be joining the Big East in 2018.

t;½s great! Maybe they can also add some community colleges that want to join.
scalpemseminoles says: Only a matter of time before Swofford & co poach Tulane sd1024 says: Nice..swooping in for Tulane before the SEC got their hands on them! oceanpeaks says: Awesome, the Mountain West, MAC and other second-tier conferences finally have a minor league.

ECU fans should forget about what may happen to the Big East as far as worrying about it. Whatever happens to the Big East it will likely outlast CUSA for money or viability. I do not think that Holland would do this if he did not project a financial benefit. The only rogue element will be the non-revenue sports as a lot of conferences make it a business to make this as hard to do and expensive as possible for these to be added to conferences without your revenue sports.
The giant step forward is recruiting. ECU now has a selling point to recruits over most of the teams that they have been competing with in that area lately. ECU will be front page news for at least a week and in more areas than eastern NC. Properly utilized this could be a football upgrade in talent very quickly.

That's kinda scary Ken. I sure hope that the ACC will stay in tact.

Of all the possible scenarios I have looked at, the only ACC teams left without a major conference home would be Wake, Duke, BC and Syracuse. If that were to happen, I think they would link up with the last survivor of the Big East, UConn and Temple. By doing that under the ACC banner, it lets them pick which non-football schools to add, and essentially leaves ECU in what used to be called C-USA and is now called the Big East.

A scorched earth scenario for the ACC is not out of the question, IMO.

I dont think it will, I believe the SEC, Big 10 and 12 will consume it. There might be a ACC after all this realignment but it will not be the ACC everybody knew it will be the leftovers of the ACC and the Big East, much like the Big East is the old CUSA.

It's hard to tell what this will mean to ECU until everybody stops moving. I don't think the B1G, and the SEC are finished adding schools. I could even see the ACC dissolving, with the real football schools of that league anchoring a new conference that leaves schools like Wake Forest and Duke on the outside looking in.

This isn't over, IMO. Not by a long shot.

The best estimate that I could find was that even if ECU only goes in for FB only they would likely receive an extra 3 to 3.5 million dollar increase in revenue. This estimate included the loss of BCS income and the schools that have not declared their exit yet staying. It was an estimate of the contract resulting from that. It does not include extra costs that may be associated with extra travel for non revenue sports.

Last time i looked (and it has been a while) the Big East payout was something like 8-9 mill per team. 3 or 3.5 mill was basketball. The large part of this money was including the BCS payout. I must admit that I do not know when their basketball contract and whoever it is with. I wonder what the money will be in 2014.
