Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

According to the Yahoo college football site they are also picked to win 75% of the time by participants in the yahoo sports pick'em game.

RE: Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

With a Sunbelt team I would laugh my head off at that foolish pick. However, our defense is so bad that I believe that we could lose to any team on any occasion. We struggled by UAB and Tulane just barely beating them, so I am not confident about this game.

I have a bad feeling that we are going to lose and it is going to leave a black mark on our football program.

RE: Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

I think that this opinion is mostly based on the fact that Florida had to block a kick and run it back for a touchdown as time ran out to beat them by a touchdown. Other than that game they do not really have any very good wins and the Florida game was a loss.
That being said, their conference played some teams well although I do not put much stock in such things.

I think it's also a reflection on just how bad CUSA was as a whole this year. They are ranked #12 as a conference in the latest Sagarin power ratings. Considering there are only 11 FBS conferences, that's pretty weak. The Sunbelt is ranked #8.

Both great points. I watched that Florida game and La. Laf. should have won in the "Swamp" ! So, they have a team that knows how to compete as a team. They don't make mistakes nor give away TDs. If they have a QB that can throw the ball (and they do), then we're in trouble. We're not going to be able to stop them, so we're going to have to out-score them. And that's only going to happen if we don't make stupid mistakes (unlikely) -- don't just hand them TDs (most probable) and make them earn everything they get.

Speaking of how bad CUSA is viewed -- I just watched the ESPNU Bowl Mania show and only one CUSA team was picked by ANYONE to win their game (Rice). And that was mainly because they are really like playing at home. ECU was picked to lose by everyone with a 60% chance of certainity (how they waged their points). I think that speaks more volume than what Vegas listed the spread as. I think it also says a great deal about our wonderful 7-1 conference record this year. But hey, ECU has a great opportunity here to prove something. How will they respond ?? Will they prove sceptic Fans like me wrong as well as the vast majority of sports media? Or, will we play to the low expectations of everyone. I for one, wouldn't be too upset if I am wrong this time and actually can see a glimpse of a footbal future at ECU. It could happen -- for real !!

RE: Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

I have heard from a Louisiana Lafayette alum that as of today they have sold 24,000 tickets, They are going to be opening the upper deck for the first time in New Orleans bowl history. They are thinking they could be pushing to upwards of 35,000 fans.

That's pretty good, considering their average home attendance was under 23,000 this season. Any idea how many Pirate fans are expected to make the trip?

I don't think we will have more than 5,000 if that. It is because it is too close to Christmas, it is against a team that no one cares about and everyone knows how bad our defense is so we could easily lose.

Those may be good reasons, but I can't help but think a response like that will hurt ECU's shot at a better bowl somewhere down the road. People can understand fans not wanting to go to Shreveport, but New Orleans?

RE: Louisiana-laf is a 6 pt favorite.

Wow! 46,000 tickets sold for the game. Of that we have only sold 2,200.
