I haven't been on ECU lately, but I agree about WRAL Sportsfan. I can't keep up with the many name changes anyomore. I don't even care either.

If you have TWC roadrunner, can you use that address? That would technically be a paid service provider.

I hope you can get on with an approved email. I had to use my internet provider email to join. Maybe you can establish an email with it and get on board.

I don't think he has anything against me, personally. And without registering on the site, I don't know any other way to get to him. The problem seems to be that I get my email free (gmail), so I can't be effectively kicked out if I misbehave - the same problem that WRAL has. It's too easy to just get a new addy and return worse than ever. I understand their concerns. We can all see what a kiddie circus this site has become.

I get a lot of inside information there too. If you can't post, then you can at least read. The guy that runs it is named Georgia Tech Swagger. It was originally a site for ACC discussions, but eventually grew into what it is today. The ACC forum is pretty dead, but the conference realignment is solid as well as some of the other conference disscussion forums inside it. You might want to see if he will let you in.

This is an excellent hire. He will turn our defense around immediately. I noticed it in Skip's first game when we beat Duke at home. THe secondary didn't look lost. They were actually aggressive and didn't get out of position. Sometimes we give Hudson too much credit without thinking about how good the assistants underneath him were. I am looking forward to next year now that we will have a proven defensive coach.

It appears Rick Smith is our new DC. He was the secondary coach here under Skip, and is currently the secondary coach and asst HC at USF.

From what I read it does sound interesting. It would not, however, let me register to comment. I don't have the right kind of email address. I guess that's to keep the riff-raff out.

Ken D try the csnbbs.com site for some good discussion of ACC, BE, realignment etc topics. Little of the crazy mess that dominates the ncstate, duke, and carolina forums. They have a separate smack talk section for all that. There is lots of good discussion about things like this.

In the SEC the median spending in 2010 amounted to $164,000 per student athlete. Think about that for a minute. That's not the most in the league. Five SEC schools spent more than that. And I think it's a safe bet that this school isn't spending that much on its women's field hockey team. By far, most of it is spent on football, which accounts for about 25% of the scholarship athletes at SEC schools.

That implies they are spending in the neighborhood of $500K for each football player. Every year! I wonder how much ECU spends?

  • lazydawg58 Jan 17, 2013
    Pro

So true Ken D. The difference in athletic budgets from conference to conference is interesting. Most SEC and B1G schools are way ahead of of the others. Louisville will have the biggest budget in the ACC. ECU is way behind most ACC schools but way ahead of most CUSA, Sunbelt schools.

Money makes a huge difference in athletic success and that is why ECU needed so desperately to move to the Big East even if the BE is a shell of it's former self. The money from TV and Bowls that can be earned makes a significant difference in budgets. So even if nBE falls completely apart and a completely new conference has to be created ECU is in a position to be a part of the best conference that isn't one of the Big 5 conferences, thus the biggest paydays they can realistically expect to get.

To get the man, you've got to pay the man. :)

  • Ken D. Jan 16, 2013

Read the article today about athletic spending. There's a reason the SEC dominates D-I football, and it's money. ECU will have a hard time competing for quality assistants as long as schools like Arkansas can throw that much at a guy who isn't even a coordinator.

It appears now that former Miami HC Randy Shannon and current Arkansas LB coach (just hired) is the leading candidate to become our new DC.

  • lazydawg58 Jan 12, 2013

Okay, hate that he got away given the good things I was hearing about him. But this is the hiring season isn't it? I imagine there are lots of DC that are looking to move up in the pecking order from smaller programs or postion coaches at bigger programs looking to move into a DC job that are full of promise.

His Wiki page says that he is no longer with FSU, and is the new DC at Purdue. Don't know if that is accurate. However, ESPN says he will "reportedly" be the new DC (Purdue just hired the Kent State coach as their new HC). Also, several FSU sites report that he has accepted Purdue's offer.

Anyone heard anything about Terry Holland meeting with Ruff? If Ruff keeps Mitchell then it proves that he shouldn't be a head coach.

Marshall fired their DC the day after we beat them. Had they had a good defensive coordinator they probably could have won the east. I am not sure why we are not following suit.

After three years of horrid defense, I think it is time to release Brian Mitchell as the DC. He is a good guy, but not a good DC.

After our failure to defend the read option correctly it is 100% obvious that coaching is the problem.

What do the other ECU faithful or those that have observed ECU's defense think?
