I really doubt we had a crowd of 50,000 for ECU. Maybe for Gardner-Webb or Elon, and definitely for a relevant team like App. State, but for ECU... doubtful.

The Big XII has its own grant of media rights deal for the next 13 years (the length of its current deals with ESPN and Fox). If those rights deals are enforceable, and I don't know who might challenge them in court, then no Big XII schools are going to the B1G or the PAC 12, and they certainly aren't going to the ACC, in the foreseeable future.

The only power conference schools that are in play for the B1G or the Big XII are SEC teams, and that would be a tough sell. The most obvious targets would be, IMO, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Kentucky, all of which fit the B1G from a geographical standpoint. Kentucky, though geographically slightly better suited than Vandy, is the worst fit for cultural and academic reasons, and because it represents the smallest media market of the three. All three schools would probably benefit from a competitive standpoint by leaving the SEC.

Frankly, I don't think the Big XII would be attractive to any SEC schools. If they want to grow to 12 schools to have a championship game, they either have to look west (BYU?) or northeast (Cincy?). I don't see them getting to 16 schools without access to ACC schools.

The ACC has more options, the best of which IMO would be to add UConn for all sports and Navy for football only. That would get them to 16 in all sports.

That would leave the AAC at 9 schools, competitively balanced, and in decent sized media markets. They could get to 12 easily by adding Southern Miss, UAB and La Tech, but those won't add many eyeballs to attract TV networks.

I don't think this stabilizes the AAC, but it wouldn't hurt it too badly. Unfortunately for ECU, it sort of puts them right back where they started, as a geographical outlier.

I think it stabilizes the conferences now. The Big10, SEC and B12 aren't going to steal any ACC teams, and I don't see the ACC having any desire to expand again if they don't lose any schools. Cincy, UCONN, USF, & UCF have no place to go other than to stay in the American.

The only disruption I can foresee is if the PAC or B10 pick off some B12 schools like Kansas, OSU, and Oklahoma. And if the B12 falls apart where do these remaining go? I don't think the ACC wants to add again. More likely the American adds Baylor, K-State, WVU and one to three more to form a 16 or 18 team league. But I don't think that is going to happen. I think we now have a calm period after these years of uncertainty.

How does the ACC rights deal help the AAC? Seems to me it sets up a scenario where the only schools who can be poached by the five power conferences are those now in the mid-majors. Cincy, UConn and the Florida schools just became more attractive, not less.

With the Grant of rights deal the ACC signed that would seem to help The American Conference. Cincy and UCONN aren't in all likelihood going anywhere. I here talk of other boards about the Florida schools or Cincy and UCONN going to the B12 or B10 but this seems highly unlikely. I think the AAC is set so now everyone can concentrate on making the conference work. ECU is upgrading in Basketball and with the recent success and a conference that includes Memphis, Temple, Cincy and UCONN recruiting should be a little easier. In football the Pirates should be contender each year.

American Athletic Conference or "The American". It is finally nice to be a full member and to have a real name for the conference.
