I think Lebo should do that, but I am not sure if he is. I know that he can't play for any ACC team. If he wants PT then a mid-major will be the way for him to go. That or a bottom feeder from a Top 6 basketball conference. I think he would work well here as we do have an opening at guard.

The one thing I can say about Lebo is that he tends to straighten out the head cases. It will take some work, but from what I have witnessed he will be able to straighten Purvis up if he came to ECU. I highly doubt he would come though.

Jeff Lebo has sealed his deal in the History of ECU. Great for him. They should extend his contract, and a few more dollars would be good too.

^^^ Good point Ken. I almost forgot about Stillman. Since this is late, we don't have to wonder about Purvis. I wish him the best in his career.

The thought has also occurred to me that in the 2014 season (the first one in which Purvis would be eligible to play as a transfer) Carolina a slated to have not just two, but four, legitimate point guards. One of them is Stillman White, from Wilmington, who is scheduled to return from a two year Mormon mission. He did a pretty decent job filling in for Kendall Marshall when he got hurt a year ago in the tournament. Something tells me Lebo would be more inclined to give him a shot than Purvis, who may be a head case. Think Lebo has talked with Roy about this?

  • Ken D. Apr 2, 2013

So what do you think, tcoutouzis? Should Jeff be trying to recruit Rodney Purvis, now that he has announced he's transferring from State? Some say the reason for his departure is that he wants to play point guard, and can't get that with the Pack. I bet Lebo could coach 'em up for the Pirates.

  • tcoutouzis Apr 2, 2013

Lebo is doing great, but I don't think he will get the nod at UNC when Roy retires unless he gets us into the NCAA tournament and maybe a conference title. In my opinion UNC wants someone who knows not only how to win titles, but to get teams to the tournament consistently. If Lebo starts getting us titles and NCAA tournament birth, then that all but seals the deal for him to coach at UNC.

I will say that it is my understanding that he loves ECU and has embraced his inner pirate. He is not a Skip Holtz. He wants to be here and we want him to be our coach. He has 54 wins and hopefully 55 tonight. Next season if all things go well he will be the winningest coach in ECU history. He needs 71 to hit that milestone.

    Go Pirates! Beat Weber State!

They need to pay him some huge dollars. If not he will move on. UNC is still anywhere from 2-4 years away, IMO. I wish Lebo all of the best in wins and be happy in his present position. ECU was on my list back in the day. Transportation was an issue for me then.

Imagine that.... only NC team left playing in the post season is the Pirates.

Also Maurice Kemp made SportsCenter Top 10 twice in a week. His dunk on Rider was number 1 last weekend and he had a dunk and and ally on Evansville to get number 3 Saturday.

I have 5 solid friends up here in the Rams Club at UNC. I do business with these people and play just a little golf too. Most like Lebo. Some stated that HD would be in the big picture when he was hired at UNC. Never been a head coach. No way Hubert Davis is even the picture up there when Roy hangs it up. FYI.

When was the last time ECU won 21 games in a season? I'll bet there are some folks in Chapel Hill keeping an eye on Mr. Lebo for future reference. If Roy has a few more of his fainting spells, he may be ready soon to head for the golf course. He's got nothing left to prove.

Big Game Saturday! The CIT might not be the NCAA tournament, but for a program that has struggled in basketball for almost 70 years, a championship will show how far we have come.

I think they were at the game tonight. It looked like a pretty full house judging from the video I saw of the Kemp dunk.

Go pirates, on to the semifinal round!

And based on the trash that spews out of the keyboards of so many on the other boards, it just might be that most ECU fans avoid the dung heap that is the WRAL sports forums. :)

  • dawgitall Mar 23, 2013

Great 2nd round win for the Pirates! Lets hope they keep it up. Winning in the post season is important for a team, even if it isn't the NCAA or NIT. These are the building blocks to advance the program and playing in the nbe/conference formally known as the BE is going to be a real step up with UC, UCONN, and Temple in the mix with Memphis.

Lebo has done wonders for our basketball program. It hasn't been this good since I was in school and Eddie Payne was our coach. I don't think he is far away from being our all time winningest coach. It was Joe Dooley (who was terrible), but I think that Herrion may have surpassed him.

I think we are going to be dangerous in the CUSA tournament.

  • dawgitall Mar 9, 2013

ECU men's basketball is really looking up. They finish the regular season 18-11 and 9-7 in conference. They will be seeded 4th in the CUSA tourney which if I'm not mistaken gets them a bye in the first round. Here is hoping for a good run the the conference tourney and maybe they get an NIT invite. Both there SOS and RPI are under 100 so they did it with quality victories. Go Pirates!
