As a season ticket holder and passionate fan of ECU football I agree with the consistency point. Going to games under Skip I knew what I was going to get before I walked in the stadium. Ruff has also had more difficulty beating the regional AQ teams. Watching Saturday's game was impressive, it almost instantly took me back to the WVU game in 08 in terms of playing complete football.

Ruff's character and love for the school/program are proven. His ability to beat bad and mediocre teams is proven. His ability to put together a full game against a heated instate rival is now proven as well. In his defense it takes time to put all the pieces in place for success. I like the direction we're moving in and think he is the man for the job long term.

He did like Logan did. He would always choke again against a team we should have beaten. He choked against Rice at the last game of the season which cost us the division in his second year. then he choked against a 1-9 Marshall team the last game of the season in his third year which cost us the east divsion for the second year. If we had won those games we would have won the CUSA East for 4 straight years.

Logan did the same thing as Skip, there would be a team on the schedule that we should destroy, but we choked. Duke comes to mind when they broke their 28 game losing streak. Cincinnati comes to mind as beating us when we should have creamed them. This was when they were winning 2-3 games a year.

I will say that Ruff doesn't let that happen as we do not misstep against the bad teams. He only did it once against Rice. However, It is different when we play teams with winning records. this season will let us know if he can beat a team with a winning record. Carolina was a good and much needed win. However, we need to knock off some teams with winning records and some ranked teams. When he does that he will start to win CUSA championships and Skip's legacy will be forgotten.

    "Skip's teams were consistent."

That they were. He lost five games 3 times and six games twice in his five seasons in Greenville. I really wasn't that impressed with Holtz.

He has my full support now. After the VT game I was waiting to see how the team would perform against Carolina before I made a judgement. UNC's defense was playing much better, but Riley has my confidence now as he shredded UNC's D and continued to do so even after Fedora made adjustments. That was the big knock on Riley. Whenever another DC would make adjustments against him he couldn't seem to counter. I wasn't worried about our defense as Rick Smith has made an immediate impact. Imagine how good our D will be in two years.

Unfortunately, Ruff is going to be in Skip's shadow until he wins a CUSA title and starts beating ranked teams. Skip did a lot for ECU even though his career as a head coach looks to be ending. Logan got us solid wins and national upsets, but no conference titles. Skip got us big upsets and conference titles.

I think the Pirate nation is looking for consistency. Ruff hasn't been consistent during his tenure in Greenville. This could be the year though. Skip's teams were consistent. You knew what you were going to get. The Defense was always solid and the offense was a smashmouth offense with not a lot of fireworks. Skip teams were consistent week in and week out. I see Ruff finally showing some consistency this year and I think that is what we are all looking for.

Will this win finally end all of the questions about Coach Ruff's ability to coach, or will we in Pirate Nation still dream about the "legendary" Skip Holtz.
