That would be 5 teams from NC. I don't know of any major conference that has 5 from 1 State.

5 Teams is not the issue and is simply the current lineup. If NC political leaders were to see the big picture, a push to put NCSU in the SEC with ECU backfilling their slot in the ACC would benefit the state a great deal.

Ken, I was addressing your assertion that ECU will never get an invite to the ACC. That is your opinion, not fact. Some said ECU would never get an invite to the Big East, while it took years it did infact happen. There is no way to know exactly how the college athletics landscape or ACC will look in the future. My post was meant to outline two potential conference affiliation options for ECU.

From your post, I'm not sure what part of my post you respectfully disagree with. I don't believe anybody in the ACC views ECU as a threat. They just don't view it as someone that adds much value to the conference that it doesn't already have.

That means that a school like Cincinnati, while it doesn't have the fan support that ECU does, isn't demonstrably better in football (basketball is another story), and could only deliver a small fraction of the Ohio TV markets, would likely be considered a better expansion choice. All of those things might not bring the conference enough additional value to justify having to split revenues even further than they already are. I don't think the ACC will expand again just for the sake of getting to a number. If it doesn't pay off in real dollars, it won't happen.

Respectfully, I disagree. ECU has several options for growth and progress.

Option 1-Embrace the AAC, deliver a solid product both on and off the field. Using increased exposure and money to be a contributor to the conference as well as positioning for future opportunities.

Option 2-Obtain an invite to the Big 12. Become a travel partner for WVU (a very similar institution) by following the blue print outlined in Option 1.

Option 3-Obtain an invite to either the ACC (in a backfill scenario should any reshuffling occur) or position for an SEC invite to create a new market for them in a growing southern state.

Regarding ECU never getting an invite to the ACC and how that could "never happen". I've seen this kind of attitude in NC for years. The Ol' Boy Network is what it really is. This thought process and way of doing business is not only archaic but detrimental to the whole state and the ultimate objective...Profit & Growth. ECU brings much to the table and should be embraced throughout the state rather than viewed as a threat.

    GO PIRATES!

Id love it but they arent going to take 4 teams from NC. SEC would be the only chance and that aint happening.

That isn't going to happen. The ACC would sweep UConn or Cincy before us. After that they are out of luck unless the Big 12 implodes. They would have to take us or BYU, which will not happen.
