Well, ECU has finally gotten the "monkey off the back" and stopped the 4 game bowl skid with the win in the Beef O'Brady Bowl !! I think it's a major step in the right direction for the ECU football program. It was a well deserving win to send the seniors out in a good way for all the hard work they have done over the past 2 or 3 years.

But let's face it, we really should have won that game all along based upon the team we were playing. Ohio kept it close and even took the lead in the 3rd quarter. But, the better team talent wise finally wore down Ohio in the 4th quarter. A lot of credit has to go to Coach Conners (strength & conditioning) as well as Rick (Def Coord.) and Lincoln (Off Coord.) for their play calls. And when you get right down to it -- that's who really runs the show, makes decisions and adjustments during the game. I think Ruff does very well in his Head Coaching role in recruiting, motivation and overall leadership of the team. He has created a wonderful "family atmosphere" at ECU and any recruit should be happy to play there -- as long as there is a winning tradition and success associated with that atmosphere.

Let's hope this win sends ECU into the new AAC next year with confidence and motivation to continue in this success. They will still have a very good group of talented players to work with and young players to develop. Now that we have finally won a bowl game, it sure would be nice to see Ruff and his staff continue this process and be able to take ECU to the next level. That would include winning against teams of at least equal or better talent, competing for a conference championship and getting back to a bowl game next year in a much better and tougher league.

Here is hoping for a good campaign in 2014 in the American Conference. When we join we will have the highest attendance of all the schools there for football.

Rick Smith turned our horrid defense around and made great strides in giving them teeth again. I think it was actually Smith who was responsible for our great defense and not so much Hudson when Skip was in Greenville. We can only get better next year on D and will have an arsenal of players on offense.

Coach Ruff has done a stellar job up there. Great recruiters on this staff. Happy for ECU.
