I think you're beginning to sound like a NC State fan. We were all disappointed at losses, but you have to gauge the overall direction of the program. George O'Leary has been at UCF for 9 years. In his 3rd year he was 4-5, and he followed that with a 10-4 4th year record. The 5th year he again went 4-5. While George O'Leary certainly did a great job this year and deserves praise, was he receiving the same praise during the 4-5 years? Fans shouldn't get too caught up in what's going on with other schools. We can be blinded by the success of others because we are able to forgo the tough building years. I think the program is headed in the right direction. Coach Ruff has now completely implemented his system and the program is now filled completely with his recruits. There has been improvement, and with moving to a "Better" conference we should see improvements in the type of recruits.I am happy with the direction of the Program. As a fan, I will always be disappointed in losses. However, I can take a step back and observe whether the Program is headed in the right direction.

I appreciate what Ruff and his coaching staff have done up there. They have definitely recruited well, and they obviously prepare well for any opponent. The Hokies were fortunate the last 2-3 years.

I agree. I would like to think that ECU would have given both Rice (CUSA Champ game) and Miss. State (Liberty Bowl) a better game. However, I haven't seen anything in the last 2-3 years that indicates ECU could handle a game of great importance against a team of equal or better talent. My main point is that "you've got to be in it to win it". And both Marshall and Rice were able to take their programs to the next step -- although both did not fully capitalize -- they both at least were able to create an opportunity.

ECU never was able to even give themselves the chance or opportunity. Mainly due to not being able to beat the one good or equal team this year (Marshall). Does 2012 sound familiar ? ECU couldn't then beat the one and only good CUSA team of UCF to play for the conference championship. ECU called themselves "co- division champions" that year. Please !! That's just a PR stat for losers -- especially if it means absolutely nothing or you get nothing for it.

Look, I know ECU is very close to breaking the glass ceiling and taking a step upward to the next level. Given their schedule next year with the new AAC as well as the out of conference teams, they will have plenty of opportunity to prove themselves. I just wish they would finally be able to take advantage of it. I think next year's schedule will not allow ECU to be just a mediocre team as we have been in the past few years. They will either be great or they will be losers. At least it won't be another agonizing season to see them come so close to greatness, but squander it away on a missed opportunity.

I know that we can make waves. However, Rice was destroyed by Mississippi State. Marshall struggles with playing on the road. Marshall plays like a different team when they go on the road, thus the blowout loss to Rice. However, Marshall showed their potential as they beat Maryland.

I would not put Rice in a similar boat as us. If we had played in the Liberty bowl I think we could have won that game against MSU.

UCF has done something amazing. I don't know how they did it, but they did. As much as I don't like those guys, they have done something special despite not having the fan support and backing like we do.

Some of you may have previously read my wishes or rants about ECU being able to take the program to the next level. That would include, winning the games we're supposed to win, winning games against at least equal or better talent, winning the division, conference championship, and going to a decent bowl against a decent opponent. By achieving all of these, a program will receive all of the benefits of national respect and recognition to go along with being ranked in the Top 25. Three words -- opportunity, results, recognition. One word -- recruits.

I will give you 3 good examples of teams very familiar to ECU that took their programs to a higher level this year in various degrees.

First will be Marshall. Won enough "winnable games" and put themselves in a position to beat the only good or equal team (ECU) and reach the CUSA championship. Was in "Honorable Mention" Top 25 before losing against Rice. Did win a decent bowl game against a respectable ACC foe and was well talked about by the 'sports world".

Next, is Rice. They achieved all of the above, but took it a step further and had the greatest potential of all CUSA. They won the championship and they were midway in "HM" Top 25 prior to the Liberty Bowl. Had they won against a very respectable SEC team, surely a Top 25 ranking. Only Good results -- but, missed opportunity.

And finally UCF. They went from being WINLESS 10 years go to now taking home a giant BCS trophy, most likely a Top 10 ranking and all the national respect

they deserve. They did it all. That's how it's done !! They put themselves in a position of opportunity, achieved the results necessary, and now can reap the rewards of national recognition. That takes both talent AND coaching.

Any of this missed opportunity seem familiar to ECU ? It can be done by a mid-major team. UCF proved it. My only wish for ECU is to hopefully rise above mediocrity and make the most of their opportunities in the new AAC conference next year.
