Feb 12, 2009
Greenville, N.C. — East Carolina and Virginia Tech will play Thursday, Nov. 5 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on ESPN, the Pirates announced Thursday in announcing their nonconference football schedule.
The Pirates and Hokies, who are currently engaged in a nine-game series which began at Blacksburg in 2007 and continued with a meeting at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium last fall, will square off against each other in Greenville for the first time since 2000.
East Carolina will also face ACC rival North Carolina at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill Sept. 19.
The Pirates will open their season against Appalachian State in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Sept. 5. ESPN is currently working to televise a visit to Big East member West Virginia a week later Sept. 12.
East Carolina's complete schedule, which also features league home games with Southern Miss, Rice, UAB and UCF, will be released by Conference USA later this month.

All of us ECU Pirate fans here in North Carolina understand that the ACC is not in favor of a playoff in football as they told Congress this past week. A lot of us have been writing our congress people all day praying that a playoff system does happen and we have several hundred people who are trying plan a trip to Washington DC to encourage a play off. This is America and every school deserves a fair chance. It's not like the Conference USA champs would ever beat the ACC champs in football.... but that game between ECU and Va Tech in Charlotte last year, the largest crowd to ever see a college football in NC, was a good one!!! I encourage every one to write or email Congressman Walter B Jones or even President Obama. Let's be heard!! And for the ACC, see you on the turf!! If not on Capitol Hill first! It's going to be good to see ECU playing, and beating UNC again. I'm going to miss seeing the pack pick up an easy W in G-ville this year though.

Indeed Heist...I hope ECU scouts a solid kicker one of these years. General Lee had his moments to be sure...but the kid we have now seems to get worse the closer the kick.

It was only a "heartbreaker" because our garbage kicker missed 3-4 fg's. He saved himself (as he has done in many other games) with the winning kick but the game should have been over long before.

Great non-conference schedule, although I hope they lose in Kenan. UNC lost a heartbreaker in Greenville year before last and it will be time for payback.
