Canes Corner

Ellis to start as Hurricanes host Islanders

Posted April 23, 2013

— Tim Gleason will play Tuesday against the New York Islanders after being cross-checked Sunday by Tampa's Pierre LaBrie in the chest while simultaneously being hit by B.J. Crombeen in the back.

Gleason said it knocked the wind out of him among other things, but said Tuesday he is fine.

Tim Wallace took a puck in his left eye Sunday in Tampa, but his vision is fine and he will play tonight.

Dan Ellis should get the start, as he took the morning skate on the starters; side. He is coming off a 35-save performance in the Hurricanes 3-2 win Sunday. Kevin Westgarth will be the healthy extra.

Kirk Muller said that it will be the same line-up as Sunday, but at the skate he had Jeff Skinner skating with Patrick Dwyer and Nicolas Blanchard instead of Tuomo Ruutu and Jordan Staal.

Muller said he feels it is important to end the season with two wins at home. Jiri Tlusty reiterated that point, saying how tremendous the fans have been through the entire season.

Despite not making the NHL playoffs, there will be postseason chances for the Hurricanes at the World Championships. Muller said it is important for the young players, pointing to Justin Faulk and Patrick Dwyer's performances last year for Team USA.

Jeff Skinner is also a player that will gain a ton of experience playing for Canada.  Muller added he played in the WC's a lot when he first entered the NHL because New Jersey wasn't a playoff contender the first few years he was there.

The Islanders are three points away from clinching a playoff spot and are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games. The Isles are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference. The Canes are 25th in the league standings, tied with Edmonton.

I'm with Willie as well! It's been a frustrating season - for fans AND players, but finishing strong will at least give the boys some pride, which they deserve IMHO.

Personally, I don't believe momentum swings from the end of one season to the beginning of the next. It hasn't seemed to do that for us in years.

Speak for yourself wdbaird. Its astounding to why people feel the need to post comments like that. If you don't care, why care enough to punk post?

Momentum swings from the end of the season to the beginning of next season so its important to end on a high note.

    Let's go Canes!
