Four members of the Duke field hockey team have earned 2012 Longstreth/NFHCA DI All-South Region honors as announced by the organization Thursday, November 15. Juniors Paula Heimbach and Emmie Le Marchand garnered first team honors while senior Abby Hassinger and redshirt junior Devon Gagliardi were named to the second team.

Heimbach started all 18 games on the Blue Devils’ defensive line during the 2012 season and has started 40 out of 41 games in her Duke career. The Palm, Pa., native picked up her first collegiate defensive save in Duke’s ACC tournament game against Maryland and scored her first collegiate goal against California on October 19 in overtime to secure a Duke victory. The 2012 All-ACC honoree also earned two assists on the year.

Le Marchand continued to be an offensive threat for the Blue Devils in 2012, picking up her third All-South Region honors in as many years. The Worchester, England native started all 18 games of the season, leading the Blue Devils with 11 goals and 27 points on the year. The 2012 All-ACC honoree currently sits tied for 11th on Duke’s career goals list with 38 total and 13th on the career points list with 91.

Gagliardi continued her scoring prowess from last season to finish the season with seven goals and four assists to bring her career totals to 17 goals and ten assists. The Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native earned her first career hat trick against Kent State while also picking up two assists to give her a single game career-high of eight points. This is the second time Gagliardi has garnered this honor in as many years.

Hassinger also picked up second-team honors for the second time in her career. The Dauphin, Pa., native started all 18 games on the Duke defensive line for the second consecutive year and scored her first goal since her freshman year against North Carolina on September 21.

As a conference, the ACC had 29 women garner all-region honors, including 17 on first teams, which is the most of any conference in the country.
