NOTES:For the 11th year in a row, the date of the John Deere Classic will be
the week prior to the British Open Championship. With many of the best players in the world preparing for the third major of the season, only three players in the top 20 of the world rankings are in the field. World No. 10 and defending champion Jordan Spieth is the highest-ranked player in the field, followed by 2012 champion Zach Johnson (16) and 3-time winner Steve Stricker (19).

Spieth is still looking for his first victory of this season following his 2013 Rookie of the Year campaign. However, he is having a very good year. Spieth is 6th on the money list, the top earner without a victory this season. He has already won over $3.6 million and finished runner-up at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the Masters.

Last year, Spieth outlasted David Hearn and Zach Johnson with a par on the fifth playoff hole to capture his first career win. Spieth birdied five of his last six holes in regulation, including a chip in from a greenside bunker at the 18th, to close out his third straight 6-under 65 and meet Johnson and Hearn at 19-under-par 265. The 19-year-old American became the first teenager to win a PGA Tour event since 1931.

Zach Johnson knocked a 6-iron approach from a fairway bunker inside a foot, setting up an easy birdie and a playoff victory in 2012. Johnson bested third- round leader Troy Matteson, who had 30 feet for birdie himself on the second playoff hole, but came up short on the 18th green. Matteson holed a 60- foot eagle on 17 to get into the playoff after blowing a 3-shot lead heading into the final round. Both players double-bogeyed the first playoff hole on No. 18 after their respective approach shots found the water.

In 2011, Stricker rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt from off the green at the 18th hole in the final round to earn his third consecutive victory at this event. Stricker finished at 22-under-par 262 for a 1-stroke win over Kyle Stanley. Stricker is the all-time money leader in tournament history with $2,888,993 in earnings.

There was plenty of history made in 2010, as Stricker won here for the second straight year following rounds of 60-66-62-70. He set the all-time PGA Tour 54-hole scoring mark at 188. Stricker cooled off Sunday for his worst round of the week and missed the tour's 72-hole record by four shots. He recorded 31 birdies for the tournament, just one shy of the 72-hole all-time tour mark of 32 held by Mark Calcavecchia (2001 Phoenix Open) and Paul Gow (2001 B.C. Open).

Paul Goydos, who finished two strokes back of Stricker in 2010, fired a 59 in the opening round, becoming the fourth player in tour history to achieve that feat. Chip Beck was the only other PGA Tour player to shoot a 59 and lose, tying for third place at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational. Stricker's opening- round 60 was a career-best on the PGA Tour, but it was only good for second place behind Goydos' 59. It was the first time in tour history that two players scored that low in a single round.

Seven players over the age of 40 have won this tournament - D.A. Weibring (1995), Ed Fiori (1996), Vijay Singh (2003), Kenny Perry (2008) and Stricker three times (2009-11). David Frost (1992-93) is the only other back-to-back winner. Weibring, Scott Hoch, Frost and Stricker are the only multiple champions of the tournament, while Frost and Hoch are the only wire-to-wire winners. Weibring, who designed the TPC Deere Run layout in 1999, is a 3-time John Deere Classic champion, last winning in 1995.

In 2006, John Senden became the seventh international player to win this event, joining New Zealand's John Lister (1976), Mexico's Victor Regalado (1978), Canada's Dave Barr (1981), South Africa's Frost (1992-93), Fiji's Singh (2003) and fellow Australian Mark Hensby (2004).

Sean O'Hair fired a 6-under 65 in the final round in 2005 to come from behind and win. O'Hair finished at 16-under-par 268 for his first career victory on the PGA Tour.

After 25 straight years at Oakwood Country Club, the tournament moved to TPC Deere Run in 2000. Crow Valley Country Club in Iowa hosted the first three years of its existence.

The PGA Tour moves to England next week for the British Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, where American Phil Mickelson will defend his title.
