Todd earns first win at Byron Nelson

Irving, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Brendon Todd closed with a 4-under 66 on Sunday to claim his first PGA Tour title at the Byron Nelson Championship.

Todd ended at 14-under-par 266 at TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas.

"I didn't really know where I stood, I asked my caddie walking off 17th tee where I was, and he thought I was two up. So I knew that was a big putt, and I jammed it in there," said Todd of his 14-foot par save on No. 17. "It feels amazing. Big monkey off the back. It's been a tough career so far with a lot of ups and down, so I'm excited to be on top right now."

Mike Weir, who hasn't won since 2007, carded 3-under 67 to end two back at minus-12. This was Weir's first top-10 finish since taking sixth place at the 2010 Bob Hope Classic, which was his first start that season.

Charles Howell III (67) and Marc Leishman (68) shared third at 10-under 270. Boo Weekley (68) and James Hahn (70) tied for fifth at minus-9.

Dustin Johnson posted a 4-under 66 to move into a share of seventh at 8-under 272. He was joined there by Matt Kuchar (68), Graham DeLaet (70) and Gary Woodland (71).

Weir was the story early on. He birdied the first from seven feet out, then his tee shot at the par-3 second lipped out. He kicked in his 3-footer for birdie and the lead.

The Canadian made another 3-foot birdie putt on No. 4 and converted his fourth birdie of the day at the fifth. He was two clear of Todd at that point.

However, Weir failed to get up and down for par at the sixth. As that happened, Todd drained a 14-footer for birdie on No. 5, and that created a tie atop the leaderboard at 12-under.

Leishman made it a 3-way tie for the lead as he birdied the eighth from seven feet out.

Weir tripped to a bogey on the ninth, then Leishman found water off the tee at No. 11. He dropped a shot there, then Todd converted a 6-foot birdie try at the ninth to grab a 2-shot lead heading to the final nine.

Todd poured in a 24-foot birdie chance on the 10th to go three clear of the field. He finished his round with eight pars in a row, and no one got closer than two strokes during that time. Among those eight was a great save on 13, where he played a backhanded 5-iron to seven feet, before making the putt.

Weir bounced back from his birdie on the ninth with a birdie on the 13th to briefly get within two. However, he tripped to a bogey on the 15th before erasing that mistake with a birdie on the par-5 16th. Weir parred the final two holes to grab second

NOTES: Todd earned $1.242 million for the win ... Todd led the field in driving accuracy (71.4 percent), total putts (99) and strokes gained putting (9.744) ... Todd had one of the two bogey-free rounds on Sunday ... Weir posted his best finish since finishing second at the weather-shortened Pebble Beach Pro-AM at the start of the 2009 season ... Amateur Scottie Scheffler finished 22nd while playing on a sponsors invitation ... The tour remains in Texas next week for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, where Boo Weekley beat Kuchar by one shot last year.
