Langers claim 2-shot win at Father/Son Challenge

Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Bernhard and Jason Langer combined to shoot a 13-under 59 in Sunday's final round and the duo went on to win the PNC Father/Son Challenge by two shots.

The Langers finished the two-day event at 23-under-par 121. Bernhard Langer has now won this event three times, with the other two coming when he was playing with his son Stefan.

"I was just trying to come out here, have fun, stay relaxed," said Jason Langer. "Wasn't expecting much ... We stayed relaxed. (Bernhard Langer) played really great. Made a few putts today and it felt really well."

Davis Love III and his son Dru also fired a 59 at Ritz Carlton Golf Club, but it was not quite enough as they settled for a runner-up finish at 21-under 123.

Vijay and Qass Singh surged up the leaderboard with an 11-under 61 and they finished tied for third at 20-under 124 with Curtis and Tom Strange (62), who shared the first-round lead with the Langers.

Defending champions Stewart and Connor Cink carded a 7-under 65 and they finished tied for eighth at 16-under 128.

The Langers began their day on fire and they really did not let up at all. Bernhard and Jason Langer cruised right out of the gate with back-to-back birdies on one and two before draining an eagle on the third.

The duo kept rolling as they ripped off four more birdies from four, putting them up by two shots at minus-18.

In the meantime, the Singhs drained four straight birdies to start their day before making an eagle on the par-5 fifth. Following three straight pars from six, the Singhs made four straight birdies from nine to come back and take the outright lead at minus-19.

The Langers came right back with a birdie on 11 to tie the lead. The Loves started their day with birdies on one and two to go along with two eagles on three and five. They later made five birdies in a six-hole stretch from 10, putting them in a tie for the lead as well at 19-under.

Another gain from the Langers on 12 gave them the outright lead once again, but the Loves came back with a birdie of their own on 17 and the Singhs also made birdie on 14 to make it a three-way tie.

The Langers poured in another gain on 14 and the Loves came through with a birdie on the last. The Singhs could not catch up down the stretch as they parred their final four holes.

With the Loves already done with their final round, the Langers made a big birdie on 16 to take the outright lead and Bernhard Langer drained a birdie putt at the last to give him and his son a 2-shot win.

"These kids get better, the younger they are the better they seem to be year after year. Even on tour you find kids that are very young," Bernhard Langer said. "Obviously we're very pleased to have made some great putts both days and to come out on top."

NOTES: Bernhard Langer is coming off a season in which he had five wins, including two major title victories ... First-round leaders/co-leaders have now gone on to win this tournament 13 times over the past 17 events ... In order for a father to qualify for this event, he must have won a professional major title ... At 14 years old, Jason Langer is now the youngest champion at this event. The previous youngest winner was his brother Stefan Langer when he and Bernhard won in 2005. Stefan Langer was 15 years old ... Shaun O'Meara made a hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth.
