Clark rallies past Furyk to win Canadian Open

Ile Bizard, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Clark carded a 5-under 65 on Sunday to rally past Jim Furyk and win the Canadian Open by a stroke.

Clark claimed his second career win on the PGA Tour at 17-under-par 263. His last win came at the 2010 Players Championship.

Furyk (69), a 2-time winner of this event, had a chance to force a playoff with a 12-foot birdie putt at the 18th hole, but he could not convert to finish a shot off the pace at 16-under.

"I didn't really want to play 18 again in a playoff," said Clark. "It was huge for me to get it finished right there. I just got hot with the putter on that back nine."

Justin Hicks (64) finished in third place at Royal Montreal Golf Club at 13- under, while Matt Kuchar (65), Michael Putnam (66) and Gonzalo Fernandez- Castano (66) shared fourth at minus-11.

Canadian Graham DeLaet (68) and Dicky Pride (636) tied for seventh at 10-under 270.

Furyk entered the day with a 3-shot lead, and that advantage increased to four when Clark opened his final round with a bogey at the first.

Furyk then bogeyed the fourth to fall to 14-under and cut his lead back to three.

Clark was joined in second place by Petrovic and Hicks before rolling in a 3- foot birdie at the sixth to move to 12-under and pull within two of Furyk.

But Furyk responded with an 11-foot birdie putt at the par-3 seventh to push his lead back to three.

As Furyk parred seven straight holes around the turn, Clark started to make his run at the lead with a 25-foot birdie effort at the 11th. He went on to birdie the 12th and 14th to move to 15-under and claim a share of the lead before play was suspended due to inclement weather.

When play resumed 26 minutes later, Clark stayed hot with a 10-foot birdie putt at the 15th to claim the outright lead at 16-under.

Clark and Furyk each birdied the par-3 17th to remain a shot apart entering the 18th, where Clark hit his approach to 44 feet and Furyk stuck his 12 feet from the hole.

After Clark left his birdie putt about six feet short, Furyk missed his potential tying putt left and Clark rolled in his par effort to claim the win.

"I've got no one to blame but myself," said Furyk. "I played definitely good enough to win the golf tournament, but I only made two birdies and I've got to make more putts."

NOTES: Clark's total of 263 tied the tournament record. He now shares it with Johnny Palmer (1952) and Scott Piercy (2012) ... The start of the final round was delayed 20 minutes to due a thunderstorm in the area ... Furyk has converted just 10 of his 26 career third-round leads into a win.
