Ogilvy snaps winless drought at Barracuda Championship

Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Geoff Ogilvy earned 14 points on Sunday as he rolled to a 5-point victory at the Barracuda Championship.

Ogilvy finished the tournament with 49 total points to collect his eighth career win on the PGA Tour, but first since the 2010 SBS Championship. The Australian also became the first non-American to win the tournament in it's 16-year history.

"Obviously, it feels like it's been a long time coming," Ogilvy said. "Feels like a long time ago, Maui in 2010. It's been a bit rough the past few years. I was playing really well most of year this year. Just didn't make any putts, which was kind of the story for the last two or three years, which is usually the story when you ask a pro why isn't he shooting good scores."

With the victory, Ogilvy earned a spot at next week's PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

Justin Hicks collected 18 points during his final round at Montreux Golf and Country Club to finish alone in second place at 44 points.

John Huh (11) and Jonathan Byrd (11) shared third at 37 points, while Rod Pampling (11) took fifth at 36 points.

Martin Laird (12) and Jason Allred (3) tied for sixth with 35 points.

Ogilvy, who started the day with a 3-point lead, parred his first four holes before capping a run of three birdies in a 4-hole stretch from the fourth with a 33-foot putt to move to 41 points and remain on top of the leaderboard.

Hicks, meanwhile, was putting together an impressive run to put some pressure on the leader.

Hicks entered the final round nine points off the pace, but quickly got on the board with a 20-foot birdie putt at the first before converting another birdie at the second.

He stayed hot with a pair of lengthy birdies at the fourth and fifth, including a 30-foot effort at the fourth, and reached 36 points with an 11- foot birdie putt at the seventh.

Hicks would pull within a point of Ogilvy with consecutive birdies at the 10th and 11th, but fell two points off the pace with a bogey at the 12th.

He bounced right back, however, with a birdie at the 13th to claim a share of the lead with Ogilvy, who soon after snapped a run of four straight pars with a 2-putt bogey at the 12th to drop to 40 points and hand Hicks a 1-point advantage.

Hicks stretched his lead to three points with a birdie at the 15th, but Ogilvy reclaimed the top spot on the leaderboard with a 27-foot eagle putt at the 13th.

Ogilvy followed that with a short birdie putt at the 14th to move to 47 points and four points clear of Hicks.

Hicks would trade a bogey at the 17th with a birdie at the last to end at 44 points.

Ogilvy parred three straight from the 15th to reach the par-5 18th with a 3- point lead and needing anything but a double-bogey to claim the win, he found the green with his third shot and rolled in a 7-foot birdie putt to account for the final margin.

"The format suits me, I think," Ogilvy said about the tournament's modified stableford scoring. "Got off to a really good start. Holed a couple nice putts on the front nine on Thursday. From then on, I barely missed a shot."

NOTES: Ogilvy had made 99 starts between wins ... Ogilvy earned 14 of his total points on the par-5 13th hole this week ... The win moved Ogilvy inside the top 100 of the FedExCup standings and guarantees him a spot in the playoffs.
