Watney maintains Barracuda Championship lead

Reno, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Watney collected eight points on Friday to maintain his lead at the Barracuda Championship.

Watney, who is seeking his sixth career win on the PGA Tour, finished two rounds at Montreux Golf and Country Club with 26 points.

"I got to keep going," Watney said. "I played great. And the golf course isn't, there's some scorable holes, but there's also a few really tough ones. So anything over five or six points is a good day."

Geoff Ogilvy earned seven points during his second round to sit alone in second place with 23 total points, while Wes Roach collected 10 points on Friday to sit in third with 22 points.

Tim Wilkinson (5) and Tommy Gainey (10) are tied for fourth with 21 points.

The tournament uses a modified stableford scoring system that awards eight points for a double-eagle, five points for an eagle, two points for a birdie and zero points for a par. A player loses one point for a bogey and two points for a double-bogey or worse.

Watney started on the back nine and parred the 10th before tripping to a bogey at the 11th.

He bounced right back with a birdie at the 12th to move into positive numbers for the day, and again traded a bogey at the 16th with a birdie at the 18th to make the turn with 20 total points.

Watney would then convert back-to-back birdies from inside 10 feet at the second and third to move his point total to 24. After parring the next four holes, he reached 26 points with a 5-foot birdie putt at the eighth.

He parred the ninth to end there and claim the clubhouse lead.

Ogilvy recorded a birdie at the third and a bogey at the seventh among seven pars during his outward nine, bringing him to 17 points at the turn.

He stuck his second shot at the par-5 13th to 10 feet from the hole and converted that for eagle to jump to 22 points, but gave one of those away with a bogey at the 14th.

The Australian responded with an 18-foot birdie putt at the 16th to finish at 23 points.

"I didn't play quite as well as I did yesterday, but I hit the ball quite well on the back nine I think," said Ogilvy. "Hopefully I can get back to more of Thursday's form on the weekend. I'm hitting the ball well enough. If I can hole a few putts, hopefully I'll be there at the end."

Roach countered three bogeys with four birdies and an eagle to account for his 10 points on Friday.

NOTES: David Duval withdrew during his second round with an elbow injury, while Richard Johnson withdrew due to a neck injury ... Y.E. Yang was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard ... Watney holds the 36-hole lead for the 17th time in his career. He has only converted one of his previous 36 into a win, doing so at the 2012 Barclays ... If not otherwise qualified, the winner of the Barracuda Championship will earn an invitation to next week's PGA Championship.
