NOTES:Sean O'Hair and Kenny Perry will try to win this event for the second
straight year, as they team up again at the 25th annual Franklin Templeton Shootout. Tournament host Greg Norman is playing with Jonas Blixt. The purse increased $100,000 from last year to $3.1 million, with the winning team earning $770,000.

In the field is a group of six major champions who have combined for eight major titles - Norman (1986 and 1993 British Open), Mark Calcavecchia (1989 British Open), Justin Leonard (1997 British Open), Mike Weir (2003 Masters), Jason Dufner (2013 PGA Championship) and Retief Goosen (2001 and 2004 U.S. Open).

For the 13th consecutive year, Norman's Tiburon Golf Club will be the venue. The tournament was founded in 1989 as a result of Norman's desire to create a unique event for PGA Tour players with a goal of raising money to help children's charities. Sherwood Country Club in California had hosted the first 11 years, while Doral Resort & Spa's Great White Course played host in 2000. The three-day tournament, which is a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, begins on Friday with a modified alternate-shot format, followed by best-ball on Saturday and a scramble on Sunday.

Last year, O'Hair and Perry birdied five of their last six holes on the final day to earn the victory. It was the first win here for O'Hair but the third time for Perry, who won in 2005 with John Huston and 2008 with Scott Hoch. Perry joined Steve Elkington, Fred Couples and Scott McCarron with three wins at this event. Perry, Elkington and Couples are the only players to win with three different partners.

In 2011, Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele cruised to a 3-stroke win over two teams. Bradley and Steele closed with a 13-under 59 to end at 32-under- par 184. Both players were competing in the event for the first time. They became the first rookie team to win this title.

Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter fired a 13-under 59 in the final round scramble to come from behind and win by two strokes over Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell in 2010. They finished at 30-under-par 186 and both won this event for the first time.

Hoch and Perry paired for a 12-under 60 in Sunday's scramble format and cruised to a 4-shot victory in 2008. Hoch and Perry finished the three-round championship at 31-under-par 185. For Hoch, it was his first victory in the tournament after several runner-up finishes in years past. Hoch became the oldest winner of this event at 53 years and 20 days old. Raymond Floyd previously held the record when he won in 1993 at 51 years, two months and 17 days old.

Woody Austin and Calcavecchia birdied the final hole on Sunday in 2007 to win by a single stroke over Norman and Bubba Watson. Austin and Calcavecchia finished at 29-under-par 187. The win was Calcavecchia's second here. He paired with Elkington to take the title in 1995.

In 2006, Jerry Kelly and Rod Pampling beat Leonard and Scott Verplank on the first sudden-death playoff hole. The 2006 playoff was just the fourth in event history. Norman and his partner Elkington beat Peter Jacobsen and John Cook in 1998, and Brad Faxon and McCarron defeated Hoch and Carlos Franco in 2000. When Hank Kuehne and Sluman won in 2003, it was the first playoff involving three teams in tournament history. They defeated Shaun Micheel and Chad Campbell, and Faxon and McCarron. In 2004, Kuehne and Sluman became just the second team to successfully defend its title. Faxon and McCarron managed that feat in 2000 and 2001.

The winning score of 193 in 2003 was the highest in tournament history, surpassing the previous mark of 191 set in 1992 by Davis Love III and Tom Kite. When Faxon and McCarron won back-to-back titles in 2000-01, each player became a three-time winner, as Faxon also captured the event back in 1994 when paired with Couples, while McCarron came away victorious in 1997 with Bruce Lietzke. Perry is the all-time money leader at this event with $1,738,957 in earnings. Calcavecchia is second with $1,646,875, while Norman is third with $1,630,750.

The PGA Tour returns Jan. 3-6 with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, where Dustin Johnson will defend his title against winners of PGA Tour events from 2013.
