Donald takes 2-shot lead at Harbour Town

Hilton Head Island, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Luke Donald fired a 5-under 66 in breezy conditions Saturday and moved two strokes clear of the field after three rounds of the Heritage.

Donald, who has two second-place and two third-place finishes over the last five years at this tournament, ended 54 holes at 8-under-par 205.

John Huh posted his second straight 68 to move into second place at minus-6 at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Former major champions Charl Schwartzel (68) and Jim Furyk (71) are tied for third place at 5-under-par 208. They were joined there by Ben Martin (71) and Nicholas Thompson (68).

Matt Kuchar, who shared the first-round lead, managed a 1-under 70 in round three. He stands alongside Brian Harman (69), Matt Every (70), Brian Stuard (68) and Russell Knox (68) in seventh place at 4-under-par 209.

The second round was completed earlier Saturday after being suspended due to heavy rain on Friday.

Donald poured in a 23-footer for eagle on the second, but he made a mess of the third and gave one shot back there. He got up and down for birdie on the par-5 fifth, but trouble loomed again.

The 2009 and 2011 runner-up dumped his approach in a bunker on the sixth and that led to a bogey. Donald missed the green with his tee ball on the seventh and that led another bogey.

Donald was back to 3-under par for the championship, but started to fight his way back into the mix with a 14-foot birdie effort on the par-4 eighth.

Around the turn, Donald converted back-to-back birdie chances at 10 and 11 to move to 6-under. He grabbed the lead with a 20-foot birdie effort on No. 14. Donald made a 14-foot birdie chance on the 17th to get to 8-under. He parred the last to end there.

"I felt really comfortable out there today, I just felt like I was going to play well and obviously I did. I've always liked this golf course," Donald said. "The conditions were pretty manageable the front nine at least, then the wind started picking up. Really happy with the way I'm striking the ball. I felt like I was going to give myself a lot of chances, and I did that."

Huh 2-putted for birdie on the par-5 fifth to move to 4-under. He made a 14- foot birdie putt at the ninth, then parred his first four holes on the back nine.

The 2012 Mayakoba winner made an 11-foot birdie chance on the 14th and got within one of the lead when he converted another 11-footer for birdie at the 16th.

"I played really good my first two rounds," Huh stated. "I've been playing good, but wasn't able to put everything together."

NOTES: Donald has only won twice in eight tries when owning a piece of the 54- hole lead ... His last win was at the 2012 Transitions Championship ... Huh had missed the cut in six of his last eight starts ... Reigning U.S. Amateur winner Matthew Fitzpatrick is tied for 16th after carding a 69 in round three.
