GYM: NC State Finishes Third at 2014 EAGL Championships

— The NC State gymnastics team posted a third-place finish with an overall team score of 195.275 at the 2014 EAGL Championships Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center Arena.

“We had three very good events in today’s meet,” said head coach Mark Stevenson. “Stephanie did a great job winning the all-around title to go along with Brittni’s and Lane’s event titles.”

New Hampshire won the meet with a team score of 196.375. Maryland (195.700) finished second overall, while Rutgers finished fourth (195.075) and George Washington placed fifth (194.250).

NC State opened the meet on vault, where EAGL Gymnast of the Year Brittni Watkins led the squad with a 9.850 to tie for first overall. Diahanna Ham posted a score of 9.825, while Stephanie Ouellette finished with a 9.800. Senior Hannah Fallanca completed her attempt with a score of 9.700, as the squad finished with a team score of 48.825.

The Pack next moved to the uneven parallel bars, where Watkins and Kristen Harabedian each notched a score of 9.850. Ouellette, the Senior Gymnast of the Year, completed her routine with a score of 9.775, while Heidi Ffield finished with a 9.750. As a group, State finished with a team score of 48.125.

On the balance beam, the Wolfpack finished with a team score of 49.000. Ouellette led the way for the squad with a score of 9.875 to finish tied for second, while Fallanca notched a score of 9.825. In addition, Ham and Lane Jarred each scored a 9.800 on their routine, while Harabedian finished with a 9.700.

State concluded the meet on the floor exercise, where Jarred and Watkins each posted a score of 9.900 to tie for first overall. Harabedian and Ouellette each scored a 9.850 on their routine. Aubrey Hine also finished with a score of 9.825, while Fallanca notched a score of 9.700. As a team, the Wolfpack finished with a score of 49.325 on the event.

In the all-around competition, Ouellette finished as the conference champion with a score of 39.300. Watkins also competed as an all-arounder, as she finished with a 38.725.

The Pack will next await its selection to the NCAA Regionals.
