GYM: NC State's Stevenson Earns 500th Win as Fallanca, Ouellette Post 9.95s

— Juniors Hannah Fallanca and Stephanie Ouellette scored 9.95s as head coach Mark Stevenson eclipsed the 500 win mark with a first place finish at the Sweetheart Invitational on Saturday. The NC State Wolfpack finished with a season-best team score of 195.675 to claim the top spot and advance Stevenson's win total to 501. Stevenson ranks seventh among active NCAA division I gymnastics coaches for wins at their current school.

North Carolina finished second with a 195.550, followed by Pittsburgh 194.750, George Washington 193.950, William & Mary 193.650 and Bowling Green 193.300.

Fallanca scored a career-high 9.95 on the balance beam, tying as the fourth-best score in school history. Fallanca's mark was also good for first in the event and tied as the highest score on the night by any gymnast.

Ouellette was not to be outdone and scored a 9.95 of her own on floor exercise, recording a new career-high in the process to claim first. The score ties as the third-best in program history.

The Wolfpack started the meet on vault, posting a team score of 48.775 the highest team score in the event on the night. State gymnasts occupied the top-three spots as freshman Brittni Watkins finished first with a 9.825, Diahanna Ham ended second with a 9.8 and Ouellette claimed a share of third with a 9.775. Morgan Johnson and Fallanca recorded the remaining two scores factoring into the team's score with a 9.7 and 9.675, respectively.

Senior Rachel Fincham recorded the highest score for the Pack on bars with a 9.850, en route to claiming second. Ouellette finished closely behind with a 9.8, while Woodford posted a 9.750. Junior Kristen Harabedian earned a score of 9.725. State finished with a team score of 48.525 in the event.

At the first two rotations, NC State trailed North Carolina 97.375- 97.3, and led each of the other four teams: Pittsburgh (97.250), George Washington (96.875), Bowling Green (96.550) and William & Mary (96.5).

After trailing at the halfway point, the Wolfpack had impressive showings in the last two events to claim the top spot in the final team scores.

In addition to Fallanca's score on beam (9.95), Ham tied her career-high with a 9.825 on the apparatus. Fincham posted a 9.8, while Harabedian scored a 9.775. Woodford tallied a 9.750 to round out State's scoring in the rotation. The Wolfpack ended with a team score of 49.100 in the event.

NC State ended the meet in grand style, recording its highest team score of the evening with a season-best 49.275 on floor exercise. Each score counted in the event for the Pack was a 9.825 or better. Ouellette's score headlined the group (9.95), but she was followed closely by Ham with a 9.850. Sophomore Lane Jarred, Watkins and Woodford each tallied 9.825s.

Ouellette also finished second in the all-around with a season-best 39.200.

The Wolfpack will return to action on Friday, Feb. 22, when it makes the short trip over to UNC for a 7 p.m. meet.
