Hurricanes activate defenseman Brett Bellemore

Posted November 2, 2013

Brett Bellemore (73) skates away from a couple of Flyers wingers during the Flyers vs. Hurricanes game on October 6, 2013 in Raleigh, NC.

— The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Saturday that defenseman Brett Bellemore has been activated from injured reserve.

Bellemore is eligible to play for the Hurricanes Saturday evening when they visit Madison Square Garden to take on New York Rangers (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, 99.9 FM The). Bellemore was placed on injured reserve following a 3-1 loss to Minnesota on Oct. 24.

Carolina was shutout for the first time in 2013-14 on Friday when Tampa Bay came to PNC Arena and left with a 3-0 win. The Hurricanes have dropped seven of their last nine games and been outscored 28-17 in that stretch.

Despite the slump, the Hurricanes are fourth in the Metropolitan Division standings.

Saturday's meeting with the Rangers is the first of five this season. The Rangers were 3-0 against the Hurricanes in 2012-13 and have won back-to-back games this week.

Carolina will return to Raleigh to host the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday in the first game of a five-game home stand.
