Hurricanes activate Skinner, place Semin on IR

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner, who has not played since Oct. 24, has been activated from injured reserve, the team announced Thursday.
Skinner is eligible to play in Carolina's Thursday evening (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports South, 99.9 FM The Fan) matchup with the Detroit Red Wings.
Skinner missed 11 games after sustaining an upper-body injury against Minnesota. Prior to his time on injured reserve, Skinner led the Hurricanes in scoring with nine points (3G, 6A). His plus-5 plus/minus rating ranks first on the team.
“He is capable of making the game-breaking play that can put you in the lead or tie a game," head coach Kirk Muller said Wednesday. "He has that different dimension that we need right now as far as all these tight games – having a natural goal scorer, and that’s what he is.”
While Skinner is back, forward Alexander Semin was placed on injured reserve Thursday due to ongoing concussion-related symptoms. Semin was injured Saturday in a loss to the St. Louis Blues.
