Hurricanes Loktionov, Bowman become UFAs

The Hurricanes have submitted qualifying offers for seven restricted free agents and let five become unrestricted Monday.
Forward Zach Boychuk, D Michal Jordan, F Greg Nemisz, D Rasmus Rissanen, F Justin Shugg, F Jared Staal and RW Jiri Tlusty received qualifying offers.
Carolina must extend a "qualifying offer" to their restricted free agents in order to retain negotiating rights to those players. If a qualifying offer is not made, that player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Center Andrei Loktionov, LW Drayson Bowman, F Aaron Palushaj, D Tommy Kivisto and F Kellen Tochkin were not given qualifying offers and thus become unrestricted free agents.
The free agency period begins July 1, any unrestricted free agent is free to negotiate and sign a contract with any NHL team at that time.
Other NHL teams will have the ability to negotiate a contract with the Hurricanes restricted free agents. If a player signs an offer sheet from another NHL team, the Hurricanes have seven days to match the terms of the offer made or decline and let the player join the new team.
