Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes and defenseman Brett Pesce have agreed to a six-year extension. The deal pays the 22-year-old $4.025 million per season and begins in the 2018-2019 season.
“Brett took another big step forward last season,” general manager Ron Francis said. “He plays a smart defensive game and has good ability to move the puck and contribute offensively. We plan for him to be a part of the Hurricanes’ defensive corps for a long time.”
The 2013 NHL Draft pick completed his second full pro season in 2016-2017, playing in all 82 games and posting a franchise-best plus-23 rating. Pesce is now the third-highest paid defenseman on the roster. He was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the third round, 66th overall.
