The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed right winger Jared Staal to a one-year, two-way deal Tuesday.
Staal, who appeared in two NHL games last season, will earn $550,000 if he plays on the NHL team or $60,000 if he plays in the AHL next season.
The youngest sibling of the Staal family was selected No. 49 overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Draft. The Hurricanes acquired him from the Coyotes in 2010 in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
In 119 career AHL games, Staal recorded eight goals and 10 assists.
The 6-foot-4, 22-year-old made his NHL debut on April 25 against the New York Rangers and his brother Marc. Jared played on the same line as his two older brothers, Eric and Jordan, marking the fourth time in NHL history that three brothers played on the same team in a season.
