The Carolina Hurricanes on Friday announced that they have recalled forward Zach Boychuk on emergency from the Charlotte Checkers American Hockey League.

In addition, the team announced that defenseman Mike Komisarek has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

Boychuk, 24, leads the Checkers in goals (9), assists (10) and points (19). The Airdrie, Alb., native has scored seven goals in the last nine games and is tied for first in the AHL in power-play goals (7).

The Hurricanes host the San Jose Sharks Friday at PNC Arena  at 7 p.m. on FOX Sports Carolinas and 99.9 FM The Fan.

atc2- I appreciate your enthusiam but lets look closely. this call up is an emeregency basis, the guys that may not play are Dwyer and Bowman so you are talking a wing on the 3rd and 4th line. Rask and Terry are centers they dont fit for this call up. For the short term this call up makes sense if it just one game, it is not like 1 players has been really lighting it up in Charlotte all the "major" players carry a negative +/- and have been struggling to score there.
Now the option of trading Ward instead of Peters or Khudobin is becoming more interesting but long term it may not make sense. Both Peters and Khudobin are either on 1 year contracts or the last year of the deal so both are UFA's after this year. Lets say we trade Ward (if we do Hopkins is not enough) and Peters and Khudobin both want to test the market to see if someone give them $6 million a year like Rask got? Now you have no goalies at all. If JR can sign one of these guys long term the other is the probably trade subject. I am not saying Ward is untradable but a lot of teams right now are not looking for a #1 goalie and the bottom line is whenever Khudobin is healthy he is going to have to make a move because there is no way Peters clears waivers and you can not keep 3 goalies on your roster long term.

What is wrong with Rutherford and Francis. Are you both kidding bringing Boychuk back up, ENOUGH! This kid is awful. Season ticket holders, fans who go to games and supporters of Canes are sick of the same recycling . Get rid of Boychuk (again).

Bring up one of the rookies who performed well in training camp (example: Rask).

What are you waiting for Rutherford. Trade someone for an offensive player. Trade Ward to Edmonton for Hopkins or anyone. Ward is awful. Couple good games and he is done, this guy has not carried us once to a Stanley Cup (and he was not the work horse in 2006).

Are you waiting for another two game losing streak and then we keep crawling back to .500. Do something Rutherford or resign. You have not put talent together that can win in 7 years (and your scouting group really sucks)!

    Do not trade Khudobin!!!

Sure hope that Peters will be in goal. He doesn't need to rest.
