— The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled goaltender Justin Peters from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League, the team announced Wednesday.

Peters, 27, was assigned to Charlotte for a conditioning stint on Feb. 19. He was 3-1-1 during the assignment. Peters is 7-9-4 with the Hurricanes in 2013-14 with a 2.5 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

The Hurricanes return to Raleigh Wednesday after a five-game road trip and will return to the ice at PNC Arena Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup with the New York Rangers.

The Hurricanes agreed to terms on Tuesday with goaltender Anton Khodobin on a two-year contract. The deal will pay Khodobin $2 million for the 2014-15 season and $2.5 million in 2015-16.

I know my comments on Cam haven't been kind lately, but I must give him credit, he's still trying to be a team player. He hasn't whined one bit about Anton getting the bulk of the playing time. He knows Anton is playing at a higher level and wants the team to win. It's because of this that he is actually considering waiving the no trade. He thinks he can go somewhere else and start over. I agree with him. I think if he will be willing to go, he will land somewhere and take that team into the playoffs. Sometimes players just need a fresh start.

Unfortunately, this means trade for Peters most likely. His trade value is higher if he is active rather than playing in a checkers uniform. It's a shame. I like the way he played when he was called up. One bad game at the wrong time cost him dearly. My wish is that Cam would go. It is true hes considering asking to be traded. He knows the fans reaction to him now verses a couple of years ago. however, Peters' performance turned some heads and that may be the formula to getting better players on center ice.

Actually, he hasn't given up more than 3. He gave him three a few times...the Montreal game before the Olympic break is the last game that comes to mind. The point I was trying to make, although I probably did a poor job of doing so, was that they were the worst two goals he gave up all year....immediately after signing a new contract.

Anton only gave up the 2 goals and hasn't given up more than 2 in any game. No jinx yet for him.

If we won't give out long term contracts, even fewer players will want to play here.

Huh? I don't think Ward makes the line-up himself. I'm sure if it were up to him, he'd want to play. I love how folks start bashing players because they're not playing up to the salaries that Rutherford gave them.
Does anyone else think that there may be a contract jinx in Carolina. Anton has been a stud all year but gave up two bad goals last night after receiving a new contract. Chad LaRose got a new deal a few years ago and is nowhere to be found. Ruutu got a deal a year or so go at the trade deadline and has never been the same player. Jussi got a deal and was horrible. He got traded and has been very good since. Semin was really good last year until he got his new deal. For the money, I would have rather kept Sutter than J Staal. I like J Staal but Sutter did the same thing for less money. The list goes on and on. Maybe Carolina should just start handing out only 1-2 year deals and then they won't get stuck with these contracts.

So what you are saying is that he will continue to sit and collect his big salary and do nothing. That doesn't say much for the man, but then I guess that's human nature.

The trade rumor about Ward was posted by me, I read that from a Canadian website. My understanding is Ward has a No-Trade clause in his contract buthe can wave that if he chooses ....... the article I read said the word was the canes talked to him about a trade but the team and Ward's agent denied it. He carries that $6.63M yearly salary for the next 2 seasons. The way he's played recently won't land him anywhere this year, only Minnesota seemed to be looking for a goalie. I like Cam, he was great when they won the cup but he hasn't measured up to the salary they gave him.

Well, with Ward's play over the past two years or so he needs to be traded or cut.

Yesterday someone posted that there is a rumor that Ward wants to be traded. If this is true maybe he will take a pay's the only way that anyone will take a chance on him.
