Hurricanes recall Ward

Posted February 2

The Carolina Hurricanes announced that the team has recalled goaltender Cam Ward from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Ward, 29, was 1-1 with a 2.02 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in two AHL games for the Checkers during his conditioning stint. The Saskatoon, Sask., native has missed the Hurricanes’ last 14 games due to a lower-body injury and the conditioning assignment. Prior to the injury, Ward (6’1”, 185 lbs.) had posted a 6-7-5 record, a 3.15 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage in 19 games with Carolina this season. He is the Hurricanes franchise’s all-time leader in games played by a goaltender (450), wins (220) and shutouts (21). The Hurricanes drafted Ward in the first round, 25th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hurricanes host the Winnipeg Jets at PNC Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (

    oh no...

I hope he can get back to original form. I also hope they don't ruin the progress we've made with Anton in goal. For a time, they should make Cam the backup, and then slowly generate a steady rotation.

I thought I heard on the news that he'll be in net on Tuesday. Ruh roh...

Khudobin is playing lights out hockey and Cam was mediocre at best before his injury. If the Canes expect to make the playoffs they better keep Anton as the number 1 goalie.

    Not looking forward to this

After just two games, and they lost half of them? Yah...not ready yet! Although his save percentage was higher.

Keep Khudobin in net....when youare flirting with the playoffs so much right now like they are and EVERY game is important, you stick with your hot goalie! JR plays it too "loyal" it seems. If he starts slipping in a game, pull him out immediately like they Peters the last time he started at home.

    JR is not the coach.

Well, I guess JR wasn't happy about winning, here we go starting another string of loses.................until he hurts his lower body.............AGAIN. Let him play in Charlotte or BF Egypt.

It will be nearly impossible for Ward to play better than Dobi has been playing. I recommend against putting him in goal.
