Raleigh, N.C. — Under the leadership of new head coach Bill Peters, the Carolina Hurricanes will begin the 2014-15 regular season with six of their first eight games on the road, according to the schedule released Sunday by the National Hockey League.
The Hurricanes will begin the season with a home game against the New York Islanders on Oct. 10 at 7 .m. The next night, the Canes will visit New York to face the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum at 7 p.m.
Nearly half of Carolina's home games will come after the All-Star break, which comes Jan. 24-25, 2014.
After returning from their early-season State Fair road trip, the Hurricanes will play seven homes games in November, including a Nov. 2 tilt against the 2014 Stanley Cup-winning Los Angeles Kings.
In the latter part of the season, Carolina will play 11 of its 15 games in March at PNC Arena, primarily in two five-game home stands. On March 17, the Hurricanes will host the Ottawa Senators, marking the team’s first St. Patrick’s Day home game since arriving in North Carolina.
Carolina will wrap up the 2014-15 regular season at PNC Arena on Saturday, April 11, against the Detroit Red Wings.
Of the Hurricanes’ 41 home games, 22 will fall on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. The team will play 16 sets of back-to-back games in 2014-15, four fewer than it played in 2013-14.
