Hurricanes to begin 2014-15 season with back-to-back games against Islanders

Posted June 22, 2014

— Under the leadership of new head coach Bill Peters, the Carolina Hurricanes will begin the 2014-15 regular season with six of their first eight games on the road, according to the schedule released Sunday by the National Hockey League.

The Hurricanes will begin the season with a home game against the New York Islanders on Oct. 10 at 7 .m. The next night, the Canes will visit New York to face the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum at 7 p.m.

Nearly half of Carolina's home games will come after the All-Star break, which comes Jan. 24-25, 2014.

After returning from their early-season State Fair road trip, the Hurricanes will play seven homes games in November, including a Nov. 2 tilt against the 2014 Stanley Cup-winning Los Angeles Kings.

In the latter part of the season, Carolina will play 11 of its 15 games in March at PNC Arena, primarily in two five-game home stands. On March 17, the Hurricanes will host the Ottawa Senators, marking the team’s first St. Patrick’s Day home game since arriving in North Carolina.

Carolina will wrap up the 2014-15 regular season at PNC Arena on Saturday, April 11, against the Detroit Red Wings.

Of the Hurricanes’ 41 home games, 22 will fall on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. The team will play 16 sets of back-to-back games in 2014-15, four fewer than it played in 2013-14.

Sept. 23: at Buffalo, 7 p.m., First Niagara Center
Sept. 24: at NY Islanders, 7 p.m., Nassau Coliseum

I'm excited. And I'm looking forward to the start of the season. I'd like to see what the new bosses can do with the non-hustlers and check-cashers.

Can these, ahem, writers please stop the insipid use of "tilt" in lieu of game? Yes, I know you saw it somewhere and you want to be part of the flock so now you use it. It sounds ridiculous, so knock it off.

It's about time to go back to Canada and give the people back their land.

A lot of caniacs are looking forward to the season with our new coach, despite the few negative crybabies on this post.

I think the Canes will be good this year under Peters. Trolls like 123skipjack are just that...trolls. Personally I hate college sports most of the time....glad to have a real PRO organization in the area

I used to be a STHr, but I lost interest when this team could not find the back of the net. Plus, Muller just seemed a bit slow to me. HOWEVER, I will say that the new coach seems like he is the real thing. Time will tell if he can get E. Staal to hustle. Muller sure could not do that.

...so you really think the fans have new excitement just because this bunch of losers have a new coach?

  • 123skipjack Jun 22, 2014

how exciting, cant wait for them missing the playoffs again

It would have been nice to have more home games in the beginning of the season, considering the Canes have a new coach, which usually brings new excitement for the fans.
