17:00 second period; Canucks 3, Hurricanes 2: In less than two minutes of play, the Hurricanes scored twice and the Canucks once to make it 3-2 Vancouver in the second period.
3:45 first period; Canucks 2, Hurricanes 0: Jason Garrison scored to extend the Canucks lead to 2-0.
Ryan Kesler scored a power play goal on a 9 foot wristshot to put the Canucks up 1-0 early.
The Hurricanes and Canucks on Sunday will play the first of a two-game season series (1 p.m. ET, FOX Sports Carolinas, 99.9FM The Fan).
The teams will square off on Dec. 9 in Vancouver, and will play multiple times in a season for the first time since the 2001-02 campaign.
The Canucks will play the second game of a back-to-back set, and their third game in four days. They defeated the Senators in Ottawa on Thursday, 5-2, and will play the Rangers in New York on Saturday.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 5-2 defeat to New Jersey at home on Friday.
Carolina trails the Canucks all-time, 25-27-12-1 (65), including 15-12-5 (32) at home and 10-15-7-1 (33) on the road.
Vancouver has won seven of the last 10 meetings against Carolina but the Hurricanes have won the last three meetings between the teams at PNC Arena.
