Conboy willing to pick up the checks

Tim Conboy has made his presence felt on the ice. In three games he has been in three fights and all with a purpose and the biggest one being the tussle with Chris Stewart of the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday that woke up a listless RBC Center and show the visitors that the Canes won’t be pushed around.
Conboy is grateful for the opportunity and knows his role, when asked about being called back up to the NHL he replied, “Can’t wipe the smile off my face right now and we are getting wins so that is a good thing too.”
Carolina might call on Conboy’s pugilistic skills again tonight against Ottawa. The Senators are fighting for the post season have tough guy Chris Neil who leads the team with 127 penalty minutes on the season. Even if Conboy is not called on to drop the gloves the impact he has made is one that should keep him in the line-up.
Head coach Paul Maurice acknowledges there is a role for a player like Conboy and what toughness can do for the team, “If you’re going real well it can be a good thing if you win it, but if you are not it can be a nice little statement to your hockey team that your going to be in a game that is probably going to get a little bit more physical.” Maurice also added an important part of what a fight can do for a game when the hitting seems to cross a line. “Tension building in a game by both teams it’s getting a little chippy you start worry more about the hits that are more dangerous. Sometimes a fight just settles a game back down and they go on and play.”
Playing at the NHL level is all that Tim Conboy wants to do and he is willing to pay the price for his teammates to stay here.
**Correction chris Neil will be out of the Ottawa line-up with a calf injury.
