The Carolina Hurricanes called center Dwight Helminen from Albany up to the organizations NHL roster today. Helminen is on emergency recall as forward Jussi Jokinen has left the team to be with his family in Finland after the death of his father.
This marks the second NHL recall this season for Helminen, who ranks third among Albany skaters with 15 goals, and fifth on the team with 30 points in 54 games. Helminen made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes at Montreal on October 28th. In eight games with Carolina, he scored a goal and earned an assist in the Canes 6-4 win over Toronto on November 2nd.
Helminen will center a fourth line with Scott Walker, who has just been activated from injured reserve, and Tim Conboy. Ryan Bayda will be a healthy scratch tonight against Washington.
