Carolina Hurricanes center Matt Cullen will miss tonight's game against the Florida Panthers with a lower body injury. Cullen only played 14 shifts and a little over eight minutes against the Capitals on Saturday night. Cullen blocked a shot on friday against the New York Islanders which may be the cause of the problem, however, teams do not have to disclose injuries to the public due to NHL policies.
The National Hockey League today named Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward its first star of the week for the period ending March 22. Ward posted a 3-0-0 record, a 2.33 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage in the Hurricanes’ three wins against New Jersey, the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals.
This marks the third time this season Ward has been named one of the league’s three stars of the week. He received third-star honors for the week ending Jan. 4, and second-star honors for the week ending Jan. 25. Ward has started each of the Hurricanes’ last 21 games and has posted a 13-6-2 record, a 2.45 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in that span.
