No suspension for Bayda

Posted May 22, 2009

Hurricanes forward Ryan Bayda will not be suspended for Game 3 against Pittsburgh, the NHL announced.

The league chose only to fine Bayda $2500 -- the maximum fine allowed under NHL rules -- for high sticking the Penguins' Kris Letang late during Carolina's 7-4 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The incident led to multiple fights. Bayda received a match penalty, and Letang drew a game misconduct.

Rule 21.2 in the NHL Rulebook states that "any player who receives a match penalty "shall be automatically suspended from further competition until the Commissioner has ruled on the issue."  But Colin Campbell, the NHL's Senior Executive Vice President for  Hockey Operations, made the decision to rescind Bayda's suspension and fine him the maximum amount..

Bayda has 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 playoff games for the Canes this year.

Exactly! The guy even admitted he deliberately hit Cole. THen he said, "It is what it is". What "it" is, is a cheap shot. Suspend Bayda, my backside. I'm glad he's playing. My only regret for Cole's hit on Orpik is that it wasn't harder. GO CANES!!!!

  • ajoplin May 23, 2009

    Sorry, I forgot. GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ajoplin May 23, 2009

Sounds like a bunch of sniveling. Bayda takes it hard to the net and that's what we need not only from him, but the rest of the Canes. If you want to talk cheap, how bout the knee to knee hit on Cole. Even Engblom said a penalty should have been called. If that wasnt by design, then Cole's smashing hit on Orpik wasnt either. If the ref's are going to let hits like those play out, then a suspension for a high stick is a joke.

I meant to point out in my earlier dialogue that it's "cry babies" not "cry babys".

A dictionary would help with getting that correct, too.

  • StunGunn May 23, 2009

You want to talk suspensions? How about the Pens??? Bruce Orpik should be suspended FOR LIFE after what he did to Erik Cole three years ago. That's called assult and IMO it was criminal.

"CHEATERS"???? Where do you come up with that? What definition are you using? "Cry babys"???? Where do you come up with that? If you're going to say something, be prepared to back it up!

I think a sucker punch is where I hit you and you didn't know it was coming. Normally, this is because I hit you from behind or I somehow conveyed that I wasn't going to swing, but I did. First off, these two squared up, and you know they were talking to each other! And, Walker obliged him. I think Ward was prepared to fight Cullen who, because he's had a concussion, wasn't going to fight. But, Ward wasn't prepared to fight Walker.

I've been in situations where I've stepped in between two guys that looked like it could boil over, and, believe me, if the guy in front of me had started to swing, I was ready to retaliate. So, Ward, give me a break! You wanted to fight and you got one.

Back to you remi! I can understand that you pull for another team and dislike the Canes, but penalties were called in both situations. And, they were reviewed. And, the fines stuck but not the automatic suspensions. It was NOT the Cane's decision. It was the league's decision. So, they "got away" with nothing. And, if you call that cheating, I think you need to go buy a dictionary.

Well it just goes to show that CHEATERS do win in sports. What is it going to take for the leauge to stop these cheaters, someone getting carried off on a strecher before they suspend them.
These cry babys got away with a sucker pumch the last series and now they are using the sticks. Next could be the skate blade.
wake up the top man and get his head out of his net.

I hate to say it, but after looking at the various stats, I wonder how well the Canes match up with these guys. But, I hope that they can pull a win the next time out of the gate. Go Canes.

Glad to see that Bayda will not be suspended. Hey furburg, the Canes might go down but at least they will go down fighting which is more than can be said for the other opponents the Pens have faced thus far. The series with the Capitals was a joke, you could call it a post season All-Star game. don't get me wrong, I am a Pens fan second so whichever team wins is OK with me although I heavily prefer if the Canes win. Crosby is being a crybaby, something I never thought I would say but he apparently had too much contact with Ovechkin in the last series because he is started acting just like him.

    GO CANES!!!!!!!!!
