Let's start this up so we can get the red headed step child of the ACC away from our rink. Too many state fans peeing all over that facility. No wonder we are seen as bumpkins if we gotta play a game right after the tractors come to town. Let's Doooooooo this.

I felt compelled to create an account on this site just to say how absolutely preposterous everything about OP's original comment is. As a huge Hurricanes fan and NCSU legacy student, allow me to set you straight.

1)The PNC was originally designed for NC State basketball and nothing else. The Whalers saw that a new arena was being built, and decided to move to the area. Hence, we have the Canes.

2)The Hurricanes are GOLD level sponsors of Wolfpack club events. This is stated on every "booster" banner I've ever seen at any given Wolfpack club shindig.

3)When the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup, various players wore NC State hats during the parade. Brindy is a State fan. His wife went to State. The Hurricanes actively put on events on and around State campus, along with showing their vehement support of the red school while facing Carolina in the "college shootouts" at the PNC during Canes games. The players are taught to make the Wolfpack sign to get cheers, hence that photo of Erik teaching Skinner what it meant. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/507/coleskinnerwolfpack.jpg/sr=1

4)The only fans that pee all over the arena are some combination of Sabre fans and drunken Pens/Flyers fans.

Allow me to correct point number one on the above list. The PNC was built for State basketball and inside events like Monster Jam and concerts. I didn't mean to say "nothing else".

You're a misnformed red rager, NCSU wanted to build a BB only arena - but they didn't have the money to do so until they changed the plan to a multi-use arena and invited the Hartford Whalers. The future Hurricanes contributed 60 million to the cost of the project while the state of NC (not NCSU alummi or donors) financed 18 million through increased taxes.

So that's why it will never be named after some Wolfpack alum or BB great. The Pack are just tenants - the Hurricanes own the majority stake in the arena and probably should tell NCSU to go find their own facility. Maybe they can afford a large tent with a dirt floor.
