It's all about breaks...you either get them or you don't. Right now, the 'Canes are not getting ANY breaks. They are not playing bad at all, they look great most games. But other teams are getting the breaks and the 'Canes are not. And the harder they try.... you know how that goes. Same with golf...it gets between your ears and no matter what you do, it just won't happen. So hang tough, Carolina and keep believing in yourselves. This can't last forever.

I think the entire organization should trade away some guys, fire some coaches, and get rid of some folks in the front office, and start over. I never thought they would be this bad. Right now the Mighty Mights who play during the intermissions are playing better.

I so disagree- I believe it's the players that are not playing well with each other. I dont think it has anything to do with Maurice.

I don't understand what the problem is with the Canes. The coach and team are virtually the same as last year. The Canes were stellar from March through May last year, and now they can't win to save their lives. I don't see how they can be so successful five months ago and stink up the ice now. This just doesn't make sense.

So, how did they get to the Eastern Conference finals last season?

There is absolutely no way any professional team in any sport can lose 10 games straight if they have good coaching. Simply cannot happen. Maurice' old school, grinding, physical, defensive minded brand of hockey simply cannot win games in this league - not that it ever did while he was coaching the Whalers. The Carolina brand of hockey - the brand that he seems to detest - is high flying, fast moving, in your face, shoot and crash the net hockey that Laviolette established - which incidentally is the brand of hockey played by every one of the conference leaders.

So now Rutherford has decided his players are all too old to play hockey (Im assuming that Stillman would be considered geriatric if he were still on the Canes) and that it's time to bring in new blood. The problem is not with the players, it's with the coach. These players can win.
